Best Of Beauty 2013

Tuesday, 31 December 2013

Its quite rare that you'll spot a new monthly favorites post on my blog now, but I could hardly let 2013 go without sharing some of the products which I think really are worth departing with your hard earned cash for. I don't usually do monthly favourites mainly because I'm rubbish at remembering, and quite often it's just the same products that keep popping up for me as it usually takes me a few months to really love a product enough to pop it in a favorites post, but I've had a whole year to think about these! You'll probably notice that this post only features make up related products, that's because I'm still not completely happy with my skincare routine and didn't want to share anything which I wasn't 100% happy with.

1. Maybelline Colour Tattoo's: I can't tell you how many times I've looked over a MAC counter umm-ing and ahh- ing over one of their Paint Pots, but at almost £20 each, it's not something I can often afford. When I came across the Maybelline colour tattoo's I thought I would give some of the shades a go as they looked quite similar. These are pretty much exact dupes for the Paint Pots, the only issue I have with them is the colour range which is quite limited. But that aside, these are really great cream eyeshadows which I love to use as a base for powder products to keep my eyeshadow in place all day. The colours I've featured here are On And On Bronze and Pink Gold as I find these two shades to be the most wearable from the collection, but I've heard Metallic Pomegranate is stunning too.

2. Urban Decay Naked Palettes - I couldn't do a 2013 favourites without mentioning these. I only own the Naked and Naked 3 palette as I found the Naked 2 to be a bit too similar to the first one but they truly are stunning palettes and really high quality. What I love most about these palettes is that every shade is wearable so you really are getting your moneys worth. There's nothing worse than splashing out on a palette to find that it's full of bright shades which you know you'll never wear.

3. YSL Touche Eclat Foundation: So far, this is my all time favourite foundation. I haven't tried that many MAC and Nars foundations which seem to be favourites among bloggers, but so far I haven't felt the need to as I've been repurchasing this one. It gives you a radiant dewy finish without picking up on any dry patches, making it perfect for my skin. Also, the colour is spot on for my skin tone, which is something I often struggle with.

4. e.l.f Blusher in Gotta Glow: Although elf lists this as a blusher, it's definitely a highlighter. It's a really pretty light white/golden shade with a hint of shimmer that looks great dusted over the op of your cheek bones. I've been wanting to try MAC Soft & Gentle for ages now but right now, this one is doing me just fine and it's such a bargain.

5. Sleek Brow Kit: I found this brow kit while I was looking for something to replace my Benefit Browzings and I'm so glad I did. This is over half the price of the Benefit option and it's a complete dupe, in fact, I think I like it more than the Benefit option. It makes it so easy to do your brows without leaving them looking completely drawn on - I'd definitely reccomend checking this out if you want an easy way to do your brows.

6. Benefit Hoola Bronzer: I picked up this bronzer with a voucher that I got for my Birthday from my lovely work colleagues and I'm so glad I chose this as I love it and use it almost everyday. It's the perfect shade for me if I just dust it over my cheeks and is a great contour shade as it contains no shimmer.

7. MAC Studio Fix Powder: This is my all time favourite powder. It's the perfect shade, coverage and finish which completely breaks my heart as I find myself repurchasing such an expensive powder over and over again. Despite how much I love this, my student budget just doesn't allow me to keep on loving this so this year, I'm hoping to find a good drugstore dupe - so send any suggestions my way!

8. Benefit Boing Concealer: Last but certainly not least is Benefit Boing Concealer. I have this on 01 and find it to give such a great brightening effect under my eyes and completely covers my dark circles and if you'd seen me in the morning you'd know how hard that was! It doesn't crease and has a very natural finish - something I will definitely be re-purchasing.

FOTD: New Years Eve Party Look

Monday, 30 December 2013

Hello Ladies! I know I don't usually post two posts on one day but there are just so many things I want to get in before 2014 starts so today I've made an exception! I thought it would be a good idea to show you a party look for New Years Eve as the big day is just around the corner and preparations have already started. This is a golden smokey look and one which I wear quite often on nights out so I hope you like it!

As a base I used MAC Studio Sculpt in NW15 as I'm quite pale at the moment and I have some pesky post Christmas spots which need covering. For concelaer, I used Benefit Boing in 01 under my eyes as it's quite brightening and the Collection Lasting Perfection concealer to cover up my spots as I don't really want to use anything brightening on them! I kept my face quite simple as I didn't want too much going on to distract from my eyes and I'm usually one for a sparkly New Years dress so I thought it's best to let that do all of the talking. To contour my face I used Benefit Hoola and the Elf 'Gotta Glow' blusher which is a really pretty golden white shimmer and finished my face off with a light dusting of MAC Pink Swoon blusher.

For my brows I used my trusty Sleek Brow Kit which I'm beginning to like even more than my Benefit Browzings (and it's half the price - bargain!). I primed my eye lids with the UD Primer Potion in Original as I don't want my make up sliding off my face mid party. To begin, I applied Urban Decay's Half Baked from the Naked palette all over my eye lid for a golden base. To smoke up my look I used MAC Knight Divine which is a smokey blue colour, or if you have the Naked palette you could use Gunmetal as it's pretty similar. To add a bit more sparkle to my look, I used one of the MAC pressed pigments (you can use either a silver or golden colour) or if you have any kind of glitter shadow this will work, such as the Barry M Dazzle Dusts. To complete my look I used Oil Slick from the UD Ammo Palette or similarly you can just use any black eyeshadow, to line my eyes and then applied lots of black mascara.

I decided to keep my lips simple for this look as I didn't want to look too OTT and used the Cheryl lipstick from the L'Oreal Nude Privee collection which is the perfect pink/brown nude.

I hope you liked this look and have a great New Years Eve weather your going out or staying in, and have a lovely 2014!

2013 Round Up & Looking To The Future

2013 has been a huge year of change for me, there's not many aspects of my life which haven't completely changed and mostly for the better. I made some decisions and huge life changes and I thought it would be a nice idea to do a bit of a round up post of my highlights of 2013 so I can look back on this one day and remember the good times. It's not often that I do these type of posts which are a bit more personal, so I hope you enjoy this little insight into my life!

Blogging

I started my blog in March this year and the next 9 months have just flown by, to the point where I can't remember what I even did with my spare time before blogging. I've had the opportunity to experience some incredible things through blogging and I have zero regrets despite some negativity I recieved towards the end of the year. One of the best blogging moments to date was being nominated for a Cosmo Blog Award. I honestly never thought that this would ever happen, especially only a couple of months after I started my blog and was still finding my feet. Although I didn't win anything, I loved every second of the night and will remember it for years to come...and I'm still kicking myself for forgetting my camera memory card! Another standout moment in my time as a blogger was getting to experience the Ice Bar in London with Benefit Cosmetics, this was my first blogging event and one of my best to date, It's something I'll never forget and I met some girls there who turned out to be some of my blogging friends still, nine months later.

I've also met some lovely people through blogging, some of which I now consider as my friends. The first bloggers I met were Kimberley and Ellie at the Benefit event and we've met up many more times for blogging events and meet ups. I've also had the privelidge to meet Rachael, Alice, Chloe, Daisy and Rosie who are all lovely girls (go check out their blogs!).

Starting my blog was one of my greatest decisions in 2013 and I've never looked back, I'm hoping to make my blog even better in 2014 and carry on having a great time doing so.

Moving

I've also moved around quite a lot in 2013. Many of you may know that I study at Bournemouth University and as part of my degree I have to undertake a years work placement which lead to one of the biggest changes of 2013. In February I was lucky enough to be offered a job at Disney which was my dream job ever since starting Uni and one of the two placements that I really wanted. I started at Disney in May which meant moving to London. I was a little nervous to move to such a big city as I'd lived in a village all my life and Bournemouth isn't exactly one of the craziest towns in the country, but it has been one of the best decisions I've ever made. Since moving to London I've had some of the best experiences such as London Fashion Week, working for such an amazing company, blogging events, and making some friends I'll never forget. Although sometimes London does get the better of me with its huge crowds and overpriced everything I love it to pieces and already don't want to leave!

Looking To The Future

2013 has been by far the best year for me, I feel like I've sorted out my life a bit more and got rid of some of the people holding me back. I've started getting better grades at Uni and got my dream job, as well as all the great things you get from blogging so I'll be sad to see it go but I also can't wait to see what 2014 has to offer. I'm not really one for New Years Resolutions as I can rarely keep them but this year my main resolution is to start saying 'yes' more, I've missed out on some great opportunities this year just because I've been too much of a wimp to say yes, so this has to change. Also, I'm hoping to cut down on my spending a little bit and start saving more, this one might be a little tricky though!

I hope you all have a Happy New Year and 2014 brings you everything you hoped for!

Braun Satin Hair 7 Styler | Review & After Pictures

Sunday, 29 December 2013

Hello Ladies! You may or may not know that I actually have very curly hair which I always straighten. If you've ever met me then I've probably gone for straight hair because thats what I feel most comfortable with and that's what easiest to manage. Having very curly hair makes it quite hard to straighten which is obviously quite damaging to hair, so I'm always looking for ways of getting straight locks without causing too much damage. Braun recently asked me if I would like to try their Satin Hair 7 Styler which causes less damage to your hair than normal hair straighteners, needless to say, I jumped at the chance!

The Satin Hair 7 Styler is the worlds first hair styler with Senso Care technology which means that it is able to adapt its temperature depending on how much moisture is in your hair, clever right?! And theres more, this hair styler allows you to programme in the length and thickness of your hair and weather or not you've had it coloured so that they styler can adapt its temperate to give you the best protection and results. When I first read all of this I found it a bit daunting but it really was very simple to programme in all your information and get the results you desire.

Braun gave me 3 looks which I could try to recreate, one of them being just the simple straight look which was the one I went for in the picture above (sorry about my dead looking face, I'm not feeling my best today!). However, it's also really easy to create curls using this styler as the rounded barrel, much similar to the GHD style, allows you to curl your hair around the styler which is what I tend to go for on nights out.

Overall, I really like the results I got from this styler and am going to continue to use it and hopefully my hair will thank me for it in the long run!

FOTD: Naked 3 Palette

Saturday, 28 December 2013

Hello Ladies! I hope you've all had a fabulous Christmas and are excited for the New Year, I can't believe how quickly 2013 has flown by! As I now have a new camera, it's so much easier for me to gt a good quality picture of my face for FOTD's so you'll be seeing my face a lot more on my blog now (I apologise in advance!). I thought I would pop a quick face of the day using the Naked 3 palette as a couple of you tweeted saying that you would like to see some looks I created with it. This is my first face of the day post so please be kind haha!

For my base I used a combination of the MAC Studio Sculpt foundation mixed with the YSL Touche Eclat foundation as I felt that my skin needed a little bit of extra coverage today and then just topped it off with my trusty MAC Studio Fox powder to keep my face shine free all day. I decided to keep my face quite simple today as we are having family round and I didn't want to look too glammed up so I just finished off my face with MAC's Pink Swoon blusher which is perfect for achieving a nice pink flush.

Next, on to my brows. To fill in my brows I just used the Sleek Brow Kit then brushed them through using the Elf brow brush to make them look slightly more natural. Next I moved onto my eyes which I primed with my Urban Decay primer potion in Original. I've only just bought the Naked 3 palette so I'm still getting used to all of the colours and decided to keep it a little bit more simple today. On my lid I used Dust and Burnout mixed together to create a light golden pink colour similar to the Pink Gold Colour Tattoo by Maybelline so you could easily use that as a drugstore alternative. To darken my crease and outer corner I just added a light dusting of Liar to add a bit more depth to my eyes. To finish off the look I used Blackheart from the Naked 3 palette as a liner and added a few coats of the Maybelline Mega Plush mascara to open up my eyes.

And as no look would be complete without lipstick I applied my favourite lipstick at the moment, MAC Lovelorn. So there you have it, an actual close up picture of my face and my very first face of the day post! I'd love to know what you thought of this post and if you'd like to see more like this, so please let me know in the comments below!

E.L.F SPF 15 Lip Conditioners | Review & Swatches

Friday, 27 December 2013

If you follow me on twitter or instagram, then you'll probably know that I recently won one of the e.l.f giveaways that they run on their twitter page. I hardly ever win anything and always thought that these giveaways were a bit of a scam, so imagine my excitement when £500 worth of e.l.f goodies turned up at my door. I don't really know what I expected when they told me it was £500 worth but trust me there was more make up there than anyone could ever imagine and I'm currently trying to work out where to store it all as it turns out my current storage set up is just not big enough.

Having never tried any e.l.f products before, I was excited to test them out and share my thoughts as I always look to reviews when buying products from online retailers to make sure that they do what is expected of them and what the colours really look like. So basically, expect a lot of e.l.f reviews over this coming year!

The first thing I tested out were the tinted lip conditioners. I always carry around lip balm in some shape or form to keep my lips from going dry and it's always a bonus when they are tinted slightly to add a bit of colour to my face. The first thing I noticed about these lip conditioners is the cute packaging. They come in a little glass looking pot with a simple black lid (very Nars-esque) and look a lot more expensive than they actually are.

I was given 4 colours in my prize box and luckily they are all colours which I would use. The colours I was given are (L-R): Blissful Berry, Peaceful Pink, Nice & Natural, and Mellow Melon, which are all very wearable colours for everyday looks. Apart from the colours, another thing I really love about these lip conditioners is the smell. These smell like sunshine, imagine a tropical beach resort...thats what these smell like. If you don't like coconut and tropical smells you probably won't be a fan but I love those kinds of smells so they are a big hit with me.

These aren't overly opaque and pigmented so you don't have to worry about applying them without a mirror and they give your lips a much needed moisture boost when they're feeling a little dry. If my lips were seriously chapped I probably wouldn't reach for these though as they aren't a magic cure for really dry lips. They also contain SPF 15 making them great for use all year round, especially when your on your holidays (or just dreaming of going on one like me!).

The Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette | Review & Swatches

Ever since I first laid eyes on this palette, I knew I needed it. One of the other placement students at Disney and fellow blogger, Georgina, tweeted me a picture of the Naked 3 when the news that it was being released broke and I knew I needed it. I'm quite boring when it comes to eyeshadows, choosing to stick to neutrals, pinks, lilacs and golden tones over brighter, more 'out there' shades so this palette looked perfect for me.

I've had this for a few days now after ordering it from the Debenhams website and it's love. Each shade is buttery soft and very pigmented, meaning that they are easy to apply and blend out. I never bought the Naked 2 palette as it looked very similar to the Naked palette which I already own and when Urban Decay said they were releasing a third, I thought that it would be the same case. Luckily for me, that wasn't the case or I would be pretty dissapointed after spending a small fortune on the palette! All of the shades have a rose gold undertone whilst still being neutral enough to wear everyday or if you like to shy away from brighter colours like me.

The palette contains 12 eyeshadows, all with a rose gold hue, which allow you to use colours together to create different looks. The colours included are (L-R):

Strange - A very light creamy pink colour which is perfect for highlighting your brow bone or your tearduct area to brighten your eyes.

Dust - A light shimmery light pink colour with silver specks. I love this colour but you do need to be careful of fallout with the shimmery shades in this palette.

Burnout - A satin rose gold colour very similar to Dust, just a little darker and less sparkly.

Limit - This is a matte light pink colour. This eyeshadow is so unbelievably creamy making it so easy to work with and blend out.

Buzz - Much like Dust, this is a shimmery rose gold shade with more of a purple tinge to it.

Trick - This is a copper shade with a rose gold undertone and one of my favourites in the palette.

Nooner - This is another matte shade. It's much darker than limit and is more of a mauve shade.

Liar - A satin mauve shade perfect for your lid or crease colour when teamed with Nooner.

Factory - This is a few shades darker than Liar and is more of a rose gold chocolate shade.

Mugshot - This is a darker brown colour and looks great through your crease or to darken up your look for an evening look.

Darkside - This is a charcoal brown shade which could be used as a liner or for a smokey eye look.

Blackheart - This is a dark brown, almost black shade with tiny specks of gold and a purple/red colour shimmer running through it. I love this shade as a liner or to darken up my look for the evening.

The Naked 3 palette also comes with samples of all 4 primer potions so you can test out which one suits you best before deciding to buy one which I think is a great idea and a nice little extra when your spending this much on your make up. One thing I love about the Naked 3 is that it is made from 12 all new shades so there are no repeats from other palettes and you won't be repurchasing ones which you already own as single eyeshadows.

I love this palette and have no regrets spending that much money on it as I know it's something I will get a lot of use out of and I love every shade included. Do you need this palette and is it worth the hype? For me, yes. If you love neutral eyeshadows and want to mix up your look a bit then this is perfect for you as its different without being too out there.

Gift Ideas: Vivabox Review

Monday, 23 December 2013

Hello Ladies! I know that it's a bit late to be thinking about Christmas presents seeing as it's Christmas Eve tomorrow but there are always people who have left it to the last minute or maybe you know someone with a birthday coming up!

I never tend to buy perfume for myself throughout the year, I usually ask for it for Christmas if there is something which I really want so I think this gift would be great for any beauty loving girl like me. The Vivabox* is a perfume beauty box, much like the Glossy Boxes which a lot of beauty bloggers adore, except this one is solely perfume. However, the thing which stands out to me about this box is that it comes with a voucher to purchase a full bottle of one of the perfumes which come in the box meaning that you aren't just paying for a load of samples which you could just pick up in a department store if you asked!

Another thing which I love about the Vivabox is that the perfume included in the box are ones which I have actually heard of and are quite popular. The perfumes included are:

- Hugo Boss Orange
- Lacoste Touch Of Pink
- Pacco Rabanne Lady Million
- Jimmy Choo Flash
- Carolina Herrera 212 VIP
- Ghost
-Paco Rabanne Black XS

Another thing I think is quite good about this box is the packaging. It has two drawers with plastic segments for the perfumes which can easily be removed meaning you can reuse the box as storage for makeup, etc - I think the drawer sizes would be perfect for lipstick and the patterns isn't too bright or daring so it will fit in with most bedroom decor.

After testing all of the perfumes I think I'm going to use my voucher to buy the Lady Million scent. Although I really hate the bottle of that perfume, it smells great and will make a nice little addition to my perfume collection. The Vivabox is available exclusively at The Perfume Shop, however I think that a lot of other stores will be copying this idea next year as it's a great way to try a perfume before you buy it to see how it lasts on your skin and how the scent changes when you apply it.

Last Minute Stocking Fillers: Ted Baker Nail Polish Sets

Sunday, 22 December 2013

Hi Ladies! I hope your all having a great weekend and not getting too stressed as the big day is fast approaching! I luckily did all of my Christmas shopping in November to beat the crowds apart from a few small presents and secret Santa presents! Today I thought I would show you all a little gift which would make a great secret Santa present or would be perfect as a stocking filler if you've left it to the last minute!

These Ted Baker nail polish sets* would make the perfect stocking filler for any beauty lover or girly girl and come in a few different colour options. The ones which I have are Blue Moon and Space Dust (the blue set) and Golden Girl and Totally Twinkie (the golden set). These colour combinations are perfect for either using on their own or you can use the glitter polish as an accent nail as you know the colors will look good together - and who can resist a bit of glitter at this time of year!

As Ted Baker aren't a well known nail polish brand such as Essie or OPI, I was suprised at how easy these polishes were to apply and how little coats it took me to achieve the desired look. Here are what both colours look like on my nails, sorry about the state of my nails but I've ran out of the nail wheels which I usually use!

These nail polish sets are available from Boots and are currently on 3 for 2, so if you have a couple of girls to buy presents for it's perfect, or even if you want a little cheek present for yourself!

Huge MAC Haul | New York & Blog Sales

Hello Beauties! I hope your all having a fab weekend feeling festive! I thought I would pop up a MAC haul as recently, I've managed to accumulate a couple of new bits! This is a big haul for me as MAC is something I can't always afford, but it probably isn't that big by some of the big YouTubers standards. I got most of this from my Mum and Dad as a present from their trip from New York and I know my Mum will probably read this so thank you! The rest I picked up in Couture Girls blog sale where I found some great bargains on MAC products that I've had my eye on for ages!

Anyway, on to what I bought. I picked up a MAC pro pan which fits in 15 eye shadows from the blog sale, and I have wanted one for ages. This design is the old design as the new palette's have clear lids so that you can see the shadows but that doesn't bother me as my collection isn't so big that I don't already know what is in the palette. I don't own too many MAC eye shadows - or at least I didn't when I bought the palette - but I had a few which I wanted to depot to save space in my collection so I could buy more make up!

Now on to the eye shadows, I have 6 new eye shadows from MAC although one of them came with the palette in the blog sale so was pretty much free. The colours I picked up are All That Glitters which is a light neutral colour, Woodwinked which is a golden brown colour, Satin Taupe which is a darker brown than Woodwinked and more of a cooler colour, Cranberry which is a really pretty burgundy colour, Sumptuous Olive which is a golden olive colour and looks great with any gold eyeshadows in the crease, and Idol Eyes which is a really pretty lilac toned silver colour.

I know that is quite a lot to get at one time but I know these are all colours which I will use and already love so they won't go to waste. Next I picked up 4 lipsticks which I've had my eyes on for ages, and it's no surprise that they are all pink!

The first one I picked up is Lovelorn which is my favourite of the bunch, it's a medium pink which is a bit more sheer and glossy than a Cremesheen lipstick from MAC as Lovelorn is a Lustre. The next one I got is Plink! which is a light almost frosty pink colour and is a great nude pink for everyday wear, this one is also a lustre so it glides onto your lips really easily without drying them out. I also got Girl About Town which is the most daring colour of the four, it's a bright fuchsia which I think will look great with simple eyes on a night out or in the summer when I have a (fake) tan! I also got Chatterbox which is another Amplified Creme lipstick, this one is your typical barbie pink and I love it for everyday wear or nights out.

So there you have it, everything I've picked up from MAC recently. I hope you liked my haul and I'd love to know what MAC products are your favourite for the next time I pop into MAC!
