May Favourites

Thursday, 30 May 2013

Hi Girlies! I know I say this every month but I really can't believe how quickly May has gone! This month I've done my exams and finished second year (hopefully!), I've moved to London and I've started my Placement! Anyway, lets get on with talking about all the products which I've been loving this month!

If you've been reading my blog for a while you'll know that I fell in love with 'Creme Cup' by MAC after winning it in a giveaway. I love this colour and I think its a great nude for me. I'm so pale that a lot of nude colours just look funny on me and wash me out. I'm a huge fan of pink lipsticks so this pinky nude is perfect for me! I've been wearing it almost everyday without fail for things like work and even going out, I really love how its so versatile!

The second thing I've been loving this month is High Beam by Benefit. I've been suffering with extra dry skin this month ( I think I must be having a reaction to something) so all my foundation and powder have been looking really cakey and clinging to all my dry patches (pretty much my whole face!) so I've been loving this highlighter as it doesn't cling or cake on my dry skin at all. It has a really creamy texture so its really easy to blend and sits well on my dry skin, giving my face a little bit more of a glow. I haven't been able to use any powder highlighters this month because of my dry skin as they just cling to it and make it worse so this has been a bit of a lifesaver as highlighter has become part of my staple products now!

Another thing I've fallen in love with this month is 'Pink Swoon' by MAC. I also won this in a giveaway (how lucky am I?!) and I haven't really been reaching to any other blushers since. This is a sheer colour blush so you can either wear it really light which looks great on my pale skin or build it up.

YSL Touche Eclat Foundation has also been an absolute lifesaver this month! As I said before my skin has been SO dry this month and this is pretty much my only foundation I can get away with wearing at the moment (not so great for my bank balance though!). I love how light and dewy this foundation is and it doesn't cling to my dry patches as much as any of my other foundations. This foundation is usually great for my dry skin and you can hardly tell my skin is dry but because its so bad this month it is clinging a bit but I don't really think I'd be able to find a magic foundation to give me a flawless look at the moment.

A fragrance has also snuck its way into my monthly favourites this time too. I don't usually include fragrances because the scent I choose usually depends on my mood that day but I've been loving Chance by Chanel almost every day this month. I love fresh scents so this is perfect. I'm rubbish at describing scents but I'd say this one was quite fresh and maybe a little bit fruity, I'm not sure! But I love how long this perfume lasts, I can apply it at 8am and it will still be on at 10pm! Also, I love how I can wear it for daytime and for a night out, so really I can't lose with this perfume, except maybe with the price.

I'd love to hear what all your monthly favourites are this month and see if we have any similar choices!

Paul Mitchell 'Soft Style'

Monday, 27 May 2013

Hi Ladies! I hope you're all having an amazing bank holiday, whatever your plans are. Today is another hair post so if you're getting bored of hearing about hair products then I would stop reading now! I got this product at christmas as a little treat from my Mum - everything I seem to be posting about recently is a present from my Mum! - so I've had it for quite a while.

I wasn't sure what this product was actually for when I first got it but Paul Mitchell describes it as a 'flexible styling gel'. I never use styling gels so I can't really compare this product to other syling gels but I think the idea of this one is to help you style your hair while still keeping it soft so that your not left with hard hair! I'm a big hairspray lover and I'm always walking around with hard hair to keep it from going frizzy or turning back curly or to stop my curls falling out on a night out so this product seemed like something I would be interested in.

Firstly, I wouldn't describe this as being a gel, its more of a liquid spray so the name is quite off putting. I decided to test this product when I was going to curl my hair as that's when I would use this product, I don't think I would bother for everyday straightening. I followed the instructions and sprayed a small amount onto clean, damp hair and styled my hair as I usually would. I did spray a bit of hairspray onto my curls as I couldn't really feel the product on my hair after I'd styled it - so it definitely keeps your hair soft.

I have to say that, I never really noticed a big difference with this product when I curled my hair. The curls stayed bouncy for the same amount of time they usually would but I do think that this product would work well if I was maybe going for a loose wavy style. Another thing I didn't really like about this product was the way it made my hair feel. I have greasy roots as it is and this just made my hair feel a lot heavier and like it was going to get greasy quicker but my hair was still soft, just a little weightier.

I don't think I would buy this product again because, although it wasn't bad, it just didn't do much for my hair and as I never use styling gels anyway, I never really find myself reaching for this product like I do with some other products. Saying this, I do love this brand, their Awuphi shampoo and conditioner is to die for so maybe my dislike of this product is down to the fact that its a styling gel (something I wouldn't use anyway) and not because I dislike the effects of the product. Basically, although its not bad, I just don't use it.

Have you tried any Paul Mitchell products? I'd love to know your thoughts!

Macadamia Deep Repair Masque

Macadamia deep repair hair masque hair mask

Hi lovelies! I hope you're all enjoying this beautiful weather we've been having recently, we seem to be so lucky with the weather every bank holiday recently! Anyway I thought I would make the most of my time off before I start work on Tuesday and life gets a bit hectic, and get some reviews up to keep you all interested!

When my Mum and Dad helped me move into my new home in London on Friday my Mum bought along this hair mask as a little treat so I could have a nice relaxing bath after all the stress of moving and unpacking (how nice!).

You can buy this hair mask either in a little pot or you can buy it in these little sachets from the hairdressers as a little treat every now and again. I've tried this mask before and I loved it the first time but its just a little too expensive for me to buy a whole tub of it, but, if you're lucky, sometimes TK Maxx have reduced macadamia products! I popped in there today to pick up a few little home bits for my new room and saw that they had a couple of full size macadamia products on offer but they were still quite expensive!

Macadamia say that this 'deep repair masque' is a combination of macadamia oil and argan oil, along with tea tree oil, chamomile oil, aloe and algae extracts to rejuvenate and rebuild the hair. This sounded like a great product for my hair, because anyone who knows me knows I love to use and abuse the hair straighteners regularly, not to mention the curlers, hairdryer and rollers for nights out...so its fair to say my hair is in a pretty bad way.

I'm not sure how many uses you're supposed to get from this one sachet but the first time I used it I was a bit stupid and plonked it all on my hair because that's what I thought I was supposed to do. For me, that was a waste of product because I didn't need it all and then I had none left over to use. I think half a sachet would have been enough for my hair. My hair is about boob length (sorry there's no other way to describe it!) and its a mixture of thick and thin hair so I think for most people half a sachet would be enough. The only annoying thing is that you can't close the sachet so I was worried about the product drying out and going bad, so I put it in a little empty pot I had because I didn't want to waste such an expensive product.

It says to comb this through wet hair and leave it on for at least 7 mins. I don't think that's an unreasonable amount of time for a hair mask so you could use it if you wanted a quicker shower, as some hair masks do tell you to keep them on for half an hour. But seeing as I spend hours in the bath anyway, I left it on for half an hour so it could really soak in.

I was a bit worried that all the oil in this product would make my roots greasy as I do suffer from greasy roots and dry ends (I can't win!) but it didn't cause any problems at all for my hair. When I'd washed the mask off and blowdried and straightened my hair I was SO impressed with the results! My hair has never felt so soft and silky as it has when I've used this mask and it really did rejuvenate my hair and put some shine back into my hair, something which it's been missing for a while now. I'm so impressed with this product that I would definitely buy it again- it's that good that I wouldn't even think of shopping around and trying out other brands!

Which hair masks do you love? Also, don't forget to enter my 150 follower giveaway!

Alison Claire Lip Balm*

Saturday, 25 May 2013

Hi Girls! I hope you're all having an amazing bank holiday weekend! I've spent mine moving house to London as I start my placement on Tuesday (scary) so all the unpacking has meant I haven't been able to enjoy the beautiful sunshine we've been having in London! I'm a massive fan of lip products, I just can't get enough of them! Sometimes I have to stop myself buying about 10 lip products when I walk past Boots as I already have so many, so you can imagine my excitement when Alison Claire Natural Beauty asked me if I wanted to try one of their lip balms.

Alison Claire make all natural beauty products which are free of harsh chemicals and use all natural ingredients meaning that their products are great for people like me who have sensitive skin. Some of their frangrances sound divine, I love fruity fragrances so all of their products appeal to me. I can't wait to get my hands on some of their citrus burst shower gel as it sounds amazing.

I received the Apricot Lip Balm (£2.50)* and I do really love it. My first impressions when I opened the little pot was that I loved the smell. This lip balm has a really lovely and strong fruity-fresh smell which I much prefer to some sweeter smells but maybe that's just me.

However, at first I didn't really love the product. It was a little hard for me so I couldn't get a lot of the product on my lips and it wasn't very moisturizing. I was so dissapointed because I loved the smell. But after a couple of hours and a little bit of heating it up with my fingers the lip balm got softer and I could apply it to my lips properly and now its super moisturizing  what a difference a couple of hours can make! I think maybe while it was in the post it had been stored in some cold places which meant the lip balm was a little hard so I would definitely leave it a few hours before you start using this lip balm. It now gives my lips that sliding feeling when you rub them together (if you know what I mean?!) which I love because it makes them feel so soft and stops any of the discomfort of dry lips.

My lips aren't especially dry or cracked at the moment so I couldn't say if this product would work so well on dryer lips but I will definitely be putting this product in my handbag as the little pot is such a great handbag size. I much prefer little pots of lip balm to sticks for putting in my handbag as I always lose the stick applicators in the bottom of my bag. I don't think I'll need to replace this product again for a while too as there is quite a lot in the pot and lip balm isn't something which I often use up as I have about 5 in my handbag and I always lose them before I finish them!

Have you tried any Alison Claire products? I'm definitely going to try the lemon shampoo next!

LA Tan spray tan

LA Tan Spray tan

la tan spray tan gold

Hi Ladies! Sorry about the lack of posting recently, I've been doing my Uni exams so I haven't really had much time to do any proper reviews! But that's all out of the way now so today I thought I would do a review on a brand of spray tan, I thought it might be useful for people looking to have a spray tan and wondering what brand to use. There are so many brands out there at the moment its sometimes hard to choose which one to go for!

I won an LA Tan competition on twitter and recieved a 1 litre bottle of the spray tanning fluid along with a couple of samples, so before my end of exams celebrations I thought it would be a nice to have a spray tan.

This tan is a 10% spray tan because I wanted it to look quite natural and not too dark as my natural skin is very pale. It doesn't really have a smell like some other brands of spray tan which doesn't really bother me because I wouldn't go out of the house after just having a spray tan because I would be really dark! It does still have that baked smell as the tan develops but I don't think you can really get away from that when having a spray tan.

I really loved how natural this tan looks as I've had a few bad ones in the past which have been quite orange and the Doritos look will never be in fashion. I only had a slight problem with my hands being very dark but I think that's more down to the actual spray tan instead of the solution.

The one thing which I didn't like about this tan was that the guide colour was very light so it was hard to see how much tan you were putting on, because of this I ended up putting a lot of coats on (3 or 4) and was then worried that the tan would develop really dark. It didn't develop too dark which I was happy about so I would say that this tan is great for all you pale skinned beauties out there as its very light and natural.

Also, while I have your attention, I'm looking for some guest bloggers to fill my blog while I'm moving house as I won't have internet! If you would like to then please either email me (look on the contact page) or tweet me @RDerbyshire93.

My Blog Hop

Saturday, 18 May 2013

Hi Girls, I hope your having a fab weekend even if the sun has decided to hide today! If you follow me on twitter then you'll know that I recently made it to 150 followers, a big milestone for me as I only added the follow button recently. To celebrate I have decided to host a blog hop instead of a giveaway. I know the usual thing to do is to hold a giveaway but at the moment I don't feel like I could actually give anything good away so there really would be no point and I thought this would be a nice idea to get some of my followers some new followers so everyone can benefit instead of one winner like in a giveaway!

So there are a few rules which apply to the blog hop, here they are:

1. You must follow your host (Me - Lipgloss and Lashes)
2. Leave your link in the comments section below and once I've checked that you've followed it will be approved and added to the blog hop.
3. Make sure that you check out at least 2 of the other links posted in the comments section and follow the ones which you like.
4. Be nice! If someone follows you, go check out their blog and if you like it then follow them back, its only fair!
5. Tweet about the blog hop using the link and my username (@RDerbyshire93) - the more people who hear about the blog hop, the more follows your blog will gain!

Happy Blog Hopping Ladies!

The cost of convenience...

Friday, 17 May 2013

Admittedly, I am partial to the odd face wipe. They’re quick, convenient, refreshing and if it means I take my make up off when I stumble in from a night out before I crash, they’re great. But these little saviours could be the reason why I still suffer with terrible skin. I’m terrible for spending all my money on makeup and skimping on skincare, like I’m sure a lot of people are. I mean why spend £50 on a cleanser when a £3 pack of face wipes could do the same job? Well, maybe it’s time for a re-think.

I have suffered with acne for several years now and I’ve been on about every ‘magic’ pill that the Doctor could give me, none of which had any great effect. Luckily, in recent years my skin has cleared up significantly but it’s still not great. I’ve been using face wipes for years now without even thinking about the damage that they are doing to my skin.

When face wipes first came out, they were revolutionary in the skincare world, with almost every brand, including MAC, making their own versions. However, these little wonders are soaked in chemical preservatives to keep them moist when they are sitting in shops for months on end, waiting to be bought. These wipes are then rubbed all over your face, including your delicate eye area causing irritation, redness and dryness, something which I suffer with frequently and now I know why.

Along with the harsh chemicals used, these ‘little wonders’ are breeding grounds for bacteria. They sit on warm shop shelves for weeks or months at a time letting bacteria grow, bacteria which is then wiped across your face which could in fact do the damage your trying to prevent, if you’re using them to stop breakouts.

Using a proper cleanser is a much better way of removing make up and washing your face as face wipes only take the surface make up off. They don’t open up your pores and deep clean your face so almost always there is still make up left on your skin after using them, even if you can’t see it. I put this to the test the other day to see for myself. I used a face wipe to give my skin a good clean then after I used a cotton pad soaked in the Clinique exfoliating toner and the dirt that was left on the cotton pad actually disgusted me. I really wasn’t expecting that much make up to come off on the pad but it really is horrible to think that most nights that’s what I go to sleep with on my skin, then put make up over it again in the morning. This is clearly causing a build up in my skin which then results in the breakouts I’ve been experiencing over the years.

Don’t get me wrong; in some circumstances these are great. I will still use face wipes for times when I can’t take my whole skincare range with me like when I’m at the gym or on a flight and want to freshen my skin up but from now on, I will most definitely be properly cleansing my skin at night. The extra time it takes before bed is definitely worth it if you want clear skin - something which I have wishes for, for years.

Does anyone know of any good cleansers for dry skin? I can't decide which brand to go for!

Summer Wishlist

Thursday, 16 May 2013

Hi Ladies! The weather is really sunny here today (even if I'm stuck inside revising) so I thought I would do my summer wishlist. If your wondering why there is a lack of bikini's and holiday things on this list, it's because I'm not going on holiday this year. I have to start my placement at the end of the month so no summer holiday for me :(.

Cambridge Satchel Co - I really want to get a Cambridge Satchel in the neon pink colour! This is really bright compared to what I usually go for but I guess Summer is the perfect time to get away with bright colours, I think it would look great if I was wearing a black or white outfit and would add a nice pop of colour!

Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation - I must be the only beauty blogger who hasn't tried this foundation! I've heard so many great things about this and seeing as I loved their 10 hour sleep effect foundation, I thought I should probably give this a go. I have really dry skin and I've heard that its great for dry skin so I can't wait to try it.

MAC lipstick in 'Impassioned' - I really want to vary my lipstick collection a bit, most of my lipsticks are a nude pink colour apart from the odd one and I've been wanting to try this one for ages but I've always been a bit scared of the colour. But, like I said before, Summer is the perfect time to go for brighter colours!

Miss Selfridge Nude Heels - I love suede heels and I think these ones are so pretty, I don't have any nude heels at the moment but I would love to get some. I think they would look great with so many outfits for going to bars/nights out and would also look great with a tan (even if mine will be fake!).

MAC MSF in 'soft and gentle' - I love highlighters at the moment. I think they give my face a much needed glow and look so pretty when your face catches the sun so they're perfect for summer! I currently use Benefit high beam but I've heard so many great things about this highlighter so I really want to try it.

Miss Selfridge Sparkly Cami - I love this top, apart from the fact that its glittery its also a really nice pastel shade. I think this would look great with jeans and some heels if I was going out for drinks in summer and who can resist sparkles!

Lauren Conrad 'Beauty' - This one isnt really a summer item but it is a book I'd really love to read. I used to love Lauren in Laguna Beach and The Hills and now she is sharing all her beauty and skincare secrets in this book. I think she always looks immaculate so maybe I can pick up a few pointers!

Body Shop 'The sparkler' - Like I said, I love glitter and anything that gives a nice shimmery glow to my skin. I have a little duster thing with really pretty glitter that I use at the moment but you can never have too many and I love the bottle for this one!

Soap and Glory Peaches and Clean - I really need a new cleanser, I'm currently scraping out every last bit of mine so it really is time for a new one. I've heard great things about this cleanser and I love the smell of peaches so I think I'll try this one next.

NARS The Illuminator in 'cococabana' - Like I said, I'm really into highlighters at the moment and the swatches of this one looks soo pretty so I really do need to try it! I think it would really make my face glow in summer and would look great with either a more made up look or if I was going for a more natural look.

Whats on your wishlist? Maybe yours is similar to mine! I'd also love a new bikini because they have so many nice ones in shops at the moment but there really is no point!

Blogging Basics | Advice for Beginners

Tuesday, 14 May 2013

Hi Ladies! Today I thought I would do a slightly different post, in that it has nothing to do with beauty products/fashion, etc. I know that some people will think 'why is she giving out blogging advice?' when I only started my blog about 3 months ago and I'm in no way a 'big' blog and I haven't got thousands of followers, but I personally would have loved someone to tell me a little bit about blogging before I started and then maybe I would be a little more successful!

When I started my blog back in March it was a very spontaneous decision and thinking about it now, I wish I had thought about it a little more and given myself time to research things like html and layouts, etc! I started a blog while I was avoiding doing Uni work so I just kind of jumped straight in and found myself clueless trying to find my way around blogger so these are just a few hints and tips for starting a blog and hopefully it will help some of you because I've had a few people asking me various questions, so I hope this helps!

Naming your blog
I actually wanted to name my blog 'all that glitters' because I love glittery things and I think the saying relates well to doing beauty product reviews and seeing if things really do live up to the hype, but unfortunately for me, that name had already been taken! So I thought about two beauty things I really love as I knew it would be a beauty blog and came up with Lipgloss and Lashes!

I think when naming your blog, you should think about something that relates to you or what you are blogging about, that way its easy for people to know what your blog is about straight away and it's a bit more personal and feels more 'you'. I would also say its important to consider the length of your name and how easy it is to pronounce - blogs with really long names which don't exactly roll off the tongue aren't as memorable as short punchy names.

Layouts
When I first started my blog, I was clueless with layouts! I had no idea what a html code even was as I had never done anything like this before and it usually takes me a while to get the hang of technology things. I saw that a lot of other bloggers had paid to get their blogs designed, and don't get me wrong, they're beautiful but I don't think its completely necessary. I didn't really have the money at the time to get my blog designed and I wanted to do it myself as a little project because I find design really fun and interesting!

At first I just used the blogger templates and customised them and my blog looked alright but I wasn't completely happy with it so off I went to Google  I typed in 'free blogger templates' and thousands came up, there are loads of websites out there that have free templates which are really pretty, one which I love is The Darling Blog. I used the 'pink cupcake' design  and then customised it on the blogger template designer to make it more my own, they also offer loads of free things like fonts, social media buttons, etc so its really worth checking out.

One thing to note with using these templates is that when you download them onto your computer it will download in a file, you need to remove the 'zip' file bit from the folder on your computer and upload that bit to blogger, if you try to upload the whole folder it won't work. If your wondering how to upload the template onto your blog here's how I found out how, I think it's a really useful website - 'trickshowto'

Social media
Social media is a must if you want your blog to actually be read! At first I was wondering why nobody was reading my blog but other blogs were getting loads of readers, well it was because I hadn't used my twitter to let people know about my blog!

I think twitter is the most important social media platform to use when blogging personally, it allows you to use hash-tags such as #bbloggers #fbloggers and #fblchat which will help your blog get notice, other bloggers will search these hashtags and see your link and maybe they will give it a read. I think taking part in the #bbloggers chats is SO Important too, I never knew what these were when I started blogging but now I do I always take part when I can. Every Sunday and Wednesday there will be a #bbloggers chat with a specific topic which allows you to share your views, chat to other bloggers and share your links at the end of the chat.

Adding Google analytics to your blog is also so important. I never did this until last week and I wish I had, you may not see your blog going anywhere but you never know! PR companies and blog awards will want to know your unique users and stats which aren't available on the blogger stats page so add it early on so you've always got information!

Another point to make is that it's vital that you sign up to sites like Bloglovin'. Since all the hoo-ha about GFC and weather its going or not, many bloggers have turned to Bloglovin' to read and follow their favourite blogs, so If you don't have a profile then you may be missing out.

Social media buttons on your blog is also a great idea, you can get these free on the internet and they usually come with guides on how to set them up. They allow users to find you on twitter, instagram, bloglovin' etc easily without having to go on a contact page and your readers may want to tweet you a question so its easier for them if they just have to click on one button!

Followers
This is a bit of a controversial topic and one which many blogger miss out in their advice posts because blogging is not about how many followers you have, nor is it a popularity contest, but it is nice to know that people like your blog enough to follow it and read it regularly. This is what most of my questions have been about so far so I think its important that I address this topic. There is no one way to get 'loads of followers' but getting your blog out there using social media, as I just mentioned, can never hurt. If nobody knows about your blog then nobody will follow it!

Most of my followers have been gained by leaving my link during the #bbloggers chats and interacting with other bloggers on twitter, I think if I hadn't of done this then a lot of the people who tell me that they love my blog would have never heard of it!

Another really important but maybe obvious point to make about gaining followers is to add the follow button to your blog. It may seem silly but for at least a month and a half I had no idea why nobody was following me, when I realized my blog didn't have a follow button on the side. You need to add the GFC widget to your side bar yourself, it doesn't come standard with the blog templates, and also make sure to add a 'follow this blog with bloglovin' link to your sidebar too incase your readers prefer to use bloglovin.

Photos
Now, I'm no photographer, but I do know that it is important to use clear photos on your blog, a lot of blog readers look to the photos first rather than your actual description so clear photos of what the product actually looks like is a must! Also, taking photos of swatches of the products is really important. If you read any of my earlier posts you'll know that I didn't do this to start off with but now I realize its really what the readers are looking for, as much as you rave about the product if you don't swatch it your readers won't know what it really looks like on, and a lot of products look different on than they do in the pan!

Photo editing is really important too, I don't mean editing them until they don't even look like they're the same colour anymore but adjusting the brightness and exposure slightly can help to make the product stand out a bit more. I also add titles, etc to my pictures when I edit them to make them look pretty and make my blog post look a little more interesting, I use ipiccy and picmonkey to do this and they're so simple to use if your not very experienced like me!

Another important point to make here is that you do not NEED a DSLR camera if you want a successful blog, I appreciate that they do take lovely photos and I would personally love one but I don't use one now for my blog and I still get people telling me that they love my photos. In fact, the camera I use was free from the Holiday Inn so its really nothing special, it can take some time to get good photos sometimes but that's just a sacrifice I've had to make! I don't think its worth buying a DSLR if your just starting out because who knows if you will even like blogging, you may decide its not for you after forking out £400 for a camera and its also not worth it if your not committed to learning how to use all of the settings.

Content
My main piece of advice in regards to content would be to write about something your passionate about, there's no point blogging about beauty when what you really love is music, because blogging does take a lot of time and effort and if your not passionate about it, you won't be motivated to keep it up and your posts won't be as great as they could be.

I also think that changing your content up a bit is a good idea, like doing 'tags' so your blog isn't just product reviews, as not all readers are interested in just product reviews.

Planning posts is also really important when you start a blog. I find it helpful to make a list of all the post ideas I've come up with so when I'm having an off day I can look at the list and do one of those posts. Scheduling pots is also a great idea, like I said, blogging takes time and effort and I know its hard to find the time sometimes with school, Uni or a full time job so pick a day to sit down and write a few posts and schedule them to go live throughout the week/month so when you don't have time, your readers still have something to read. That goes for taking photos too, take them in bulk so you always have photos ready if you have a half an hour spare to do a blog post.

So, they're you have it, my advice for those who are thinking of starting a blog or have recently started a blog! I really hope this was helpful, if you thought it was (or wasn't) I'd love to know so please comment in the box below or just tweet me @RDerbyshire93 as I always love reading your comments.

Also, while I've got you here, it would mean the world to me if you could nominate me for 'Best New Beauty Blog' in the Cosmo Blog awads, I really expect to get nowhere with these awards, but its worth a try!

Hi Ladies! I saw this tag on one of my favourite blogs - Coture Girl, If your a blog lover I'm sure you will have heard of this blog as its amazing! Its basically a game of would you rather except all of the questions are beauty related. It doesn't need much introduction, so I'll just jump straight in.

Would you rather lose all of your mascaras, eyeliners, lipsticks, and lipglosses or lose all of your palettes and eyeshadows?
This one isn't really hard for me, I am a lipstick obsessor and my collection is slowly growing but I've only recently started to love eyeshadows and learnt which colours work together so my collection of eyeshadows isn't too large at the moment so I wouldn't be loosing to much. Also, Its not like I would be giving up eyeliner and mascara so my eyes wouldn't be bare!

Would you rather chop off all your hair or never be able to cut it again?
Hmm, although if I didn't ever cut my hair again I'd end up with a very long mane eventually when my hair finally decides to grow with loads of split ends, I couldn't cut off all my hair, I hate going to the hairdressers purely because they always cut too much off and I've never found one who listens to what I actually want, so going in and chopping all my hair off would be a nightmare for me!

Would you rather have a coral cheek or a pink cheek?
I would definitely go with a pink blusher, most of my blushers are pink and I think there's much more variety of pink blushers around than coral. I currently only have one coral blusher and I only ever really use it when I've got a tan because I think sometimes it doesn't suit my very pale skin. And I hardly ever have a tan so I think I could get away with pink all year.

If you had £1000 to spend, Would you rather buy clothes or makeup?
Although I am a great lover of make up and my wishlist is currently larger than me, I think I would have to spend it on clothes. I don't really buy clothes that often and I really do need a wadrobe revamp, and especially to get more work clothes but I find that I have quite an expensive taste so I can't really get all the clothes I want all the time.

Would you rather apply lipstick as eyeliner, or eyeliner as lipstick?
I wouldn't like to do either, I can't imagine liking either texture where they aren't meant for but if I had to choose I would wear eyeliner on my lips. You can get so many shades of eyeliner now from some make up brands so I think you could get your hands on a colour that would look good on your lips, but I don't think any of my lipstick colours would look nice anywhere near my eyes, and I imaging it would feel quite sticky, not a nice feeling for your eyelids!

Would you rather only shop at MAC or Sephora?
We don't have a Sephora in the UK (So sad, I know!) but I think if I did live near one I would probably choose Sephora, from what I gather, there's loads of different brands and you can get a wide variety of make up there but I think If I could only shop at Mac I would get a little bored, even if it is one of my favorite brands.

Would you rather only use one eyeshadow color or one lip color for the rest of your life?
I think I would rather wear one lip colour, even though my lipstick collection is growing I do tend to use the same kind of shade for everyday use and I think you can easily wear a muted lip when going out and it will go with all eyeshadow looks, but my eye looks for day to day and going out are quite different so I would have to go with just one lip colour.

Would you rather wear winter clothes in summer or summer clothes in winter?
I think I would rather wear winter clothes in summer. Just because here in the UK we never really get a proper summer, so I reckon I could sweat it out in my winter clothes for a week whereas wearing shorts for the months on end of cold weather would be terrible, I think I may actually die if I tried that this year, if last winter is anything to go by!

Would you rather dark nails or bright nails all year round?
I think I would have to go for bright nails. As much as I love them, dark nails don't really suit me at all!

Would you rather give up your favorite lip product or your favorite eye product?
Definitely my favourite eye product. I don't wear eyeshadow everyday whereas I can't finish my make up without adding some sort of lip product, so losing the eye make up wouldn't be as distressing as losing my lipstick!

Would you rather only be able to wear your hair in a pony tail or a messy bun?
I think I would go for a ponytail. You can have loads of different ponytails - high, low, messy, curly, straight, etc. So I think having a ponytail would give me more options with my hair whereas a messy bun is only really one look, and I'm not very good at doing a messy bun!

Would your rather never being able to paint your nails again or never use lipgloss?
I'd rather not paint my nails again. You can always get stick on fake nails or acrylics done and that technically isn't painting your nails and they would still look nice!

Would you rather shave your eyebrows and have none at all? or sharpie them in everyday?
Both of these options are horrendous, Imagine how funny my face would look with no eyebrows or with ones drawn on with a sharpie?! But I think the lesser of the two evils in this case is the sharpie. I guess I could get a thin brown sharpie and try and make it work?

Would you rather live without makeup or nail polish?
This is an easy one for me. I would 100% rather live without nail varnish. I'm so lazy when it comes to my nails, unless I've had them done, I can usually be found walking round with chipped and bitten nails because I just can't break the habit. Whereas I love my make up and I don't think I'm lazy with that.

I hope you liked this post and If you do this tag yourself don't forget to either comment and let me know or tweet me (@RDerbyshire93) and let me know so I can have a read! Some of these were quite tough to answer so I'd love to know if you would choose the same!

MAC Blush in Pink Swoon

MAC blusher pink swoon

Hi Lovelies! I hope your all enjoying the short week if you're working, or if your like me and are supposed to be revising then I hope its not been too horrible and good luck in your exams! I thought I would do a review of a blush which I really love at the moment. I won this in a giveaway along with my MAC Creme Cup lipstick, which I've reviewed here if you want to take a look. I was so happy to have won this giveaway because I love MAC blushes and I've wanted to start my MAC lipstick collection for some time now. As I don't live near a MAC I had to choose the shades based on online reviews and the MAC website so I'm so pleased I chose well and the shades suit me!

I decided to go for 'Pink Swoon' as I wanted a pretty pink colour which wasn't too muted. I took a sneaky look at my Mum's MAC blusher to see what shade she had and if I liked it. She has 'Pinch of Peach' which is a really lovely peachy pink colour but as I didn't want to get exactly the same I went for 'pink swoon' which I think is slightly brighter and pinker.

MAC describes it as 'clearly pink', I'm not too sure what that's supposed to mean but its a really lovely girly pink colour which is kind of bright but not too bright. It looks very bright in the packaging, as you can see from the third picture but it isn't actually that bright when you put it on, so I think it's very wearable for a day to day basis. This blush is a sheertone which I think is great because it looks so natural because lets face it, the clown look will never be on trend!

Have you tried this blush or others like it? What's your favourite MAC blusher? I'd love to know!

I've been nominated...

Thursday, 9 May 2013

Hi Ladies! So I just found out that I've been nominated for the Liebster award by Holly! Basically, its an award which gets passed around to blogs to help get them notice! I think its a great idea to show others how much you love their blogs and show other bloggers some support!

2. Choose 11 new bloggers to pass the award onto and link them in your post.

Hollys questions:

1. What made you want to start your blog?

I'm a bit of a lipstick junkie but I don't think I could live without foundation to make my skin look better! I used to suffer with terrible acne so I've always been a bit self conscious about my skin and do feel the need to cover it up, although it is a lot better now!

I think my one wish would be to work in Marketing for a beauty company, it really is my dream and I've been working towards it for a while now.
8. Do you have a favourite quote?
'dreams don't work unless you do' - it's always motivating when your feeling like you can't do it anymore!
9. What's your favourite perfume?
My favourite perfume has got to be the Chanel ' Chance au fraice (the green one), its such a lovely fresh scent.
10. Lipstick, Lip gloss or Lip balm?
It used to be lipgloss, but now I love lipstick.
