Skinetica | Review & After Pictures

Saturday, 19 October 2013

Hi Ladies! Since starting my blog, I've really been getting into skincare and have been enjoying the benefits that a regular skincare routine has to offer. Long gone are the days of face wipes, and my skin has never thanked me enough. Before I review this product I think it's best I give you a bit of background into my skin type. Currently I have dry sensetive skin, however it can sometimes become oily around my nose. I still class my skin as dry as it is way too dry to be classed as combination, and I find that skincare directed at dry skin works best for me. Also, after having suffered around 7-8 years of terrible acne, I now have sensitive skin as a result of all of the treatments I went through.

When Skinetica* contacted me asking me if I would like to try one of their acne treatments, I jumped at the chance. I would usually be more careful when choosing an acne treatment as I do find that none of them really live up to their claims and as they are quite toxic (in order to purge the spots), they often dry out my skin more that a product usually would, but after reading so many brilliant things about Skinetica, I jumped at the chance.

Skinetica claims to contain no harsh chemicals and be non toxic, while clearing up the skin to produce brilliant results with no side effects. Having suffered with acne for so long, I was immediately sucked into these claims as it was exactly what I was looking for - an acne treatment suitable for sensitive skin. Although my first thoughts were 'this is too good to be true', after reading a few rave reviews claiming it was a skin savior, I decided to give it a go. I've tried hundreds of acne treatments over the years, from creams to solutions and many more, but none of them were miracle workers and I was hopeful that this one would be the one.

Although I am not currently suffering with what you would call acne, I am still prone to spots and breakouts and my skin is never completely clear, although most of the time it mostly is. On first impressions, I loved Skinetica. I just swept it over my skin after cleansing and waited for to air dry like it said on the packaging. It only took a few seconds for it to dry then I could apply my moisturizer and either apply my make up or go to bed. At first, the few spots I had cleared up immediately which I thought was amazing but as skincare does have long term effects I thought it would be best to wait a few weeks then review it and I'm so glad I did.

After about a week and a half of using the solution, my skin started to get very red, dry and sore to I stopped using Skinetica to see if this made a difference, as my skin is sensitive I wasn't sure if it was just the change in the weather, stress, etc so I wanted to completely make sure. After about a week my skin returned to normal again and I decided to give Skinetica another go. I was shocked to find that my skin reacted terribly when I introduced Skinetica again, it was really sore, red and huge spots started to appear in places where I am not usually affected by spots.

As an acne sufferer, my skin has the power to completely get me down when it does things like this. Your face is the first thing people see when they look at you and now mine is still dry, flaky, sore, red and now covered in very large red bumps that no amount of make up will cover. I never really feel like going out and I hate it when I can see people staring at the patches on my face. I have now stopped using Skinetica, however most of my normal skincare products are now irritating my skin due to the way Skinetica has left it. I was unsure weather to post this photo as I realize it really is disgusting, but this is what I am having to live with on my face and this was taken a week after \I had stopped using Skinetica. I don't think I would mind so much if I were younger and could get away with saying it was teenage acne, but I am now 20 so when you have skin like this and all of your friends have beautifully clear faces, it is so much more noticeable and I really do not know what to do about it as it has left me feeling so down.

I was really unsure weather to post this as I realize that this product was gifted to me, and I think I will have to deal with a lot of backlash for posting a negative review but I feel like it would be wrong of me to with-hold my thoughts on this as when a product only has brilliant reviews, it is easy to get sucked into the hype like I did. I'm not saying that the brilliant reviews aren't true - far from it. I just think that this product is much more suited to skin which does not react as easily as mine does or is as dry as mine. I think this product would work so much better on someone with oily skin rather than my dry skin.

In all honesty, I do not think there is a miracle cure for acne prone skin. However, a good skincare routine, a good diet and growing up will all set you on the right path. I've tried ever acne treatment under the sun and nothing has left me with a long term miracle cure - sometimes you really do just have to wait for time to pass to grow out of things, and I think acne is one of those things. If you are struggling with acne, try not to let it get you down. I understand just how horrible it can be but you aren't the only one and we are our own biggest critics - no matter how bad you think it is, it will never be that bad and most people probably won't take a second glance at the problem areas!

  1. Thanks for the honest review. As someone who has sensitive skin, I totally appreciate reviews like this because it's so easy for people to convince you to try a skincare product. Everyone reacts differently to different products, and maybe it would work well for other people.

    1. I think there are just so many mixed reviews on this product and I was unlucky enough to get a reaction, I wouldn't mind so much if they didn't advertise it as having no side effects but I think from now on I will have to use less alcohol based products on my skin! xx

  2. Gosh, its such a shame that it had that effect :( it worked well for me but I never get more than the occasional blemish so I wouldn't be using it often enough to get a reaction. It's definitely one to be wary of if you have more sensitive skin, especially because it has a high alcohol content! xx

    1. My skin reacts really easily to a lot of products so I'm not surprised that I got a reaction with such a high alcohol content. I've heard its a great product if you just get the odd spot though! xx

    1. I really didn't expect it to break me out as it is claiming to do the opposite! I think its just luck of the draw with this product as so many people love it but there are quite a few people who have had bad reactions! xx

  8. Glad to see such a honest review showing the negative side effects. I used a small sample of this and had no effects but equally as I'm not an acne suffering I just swiped it over the skin if I was having a hormonal breakout but I always think would the acne have cleared up just the same without using the product.
