January Beauty Favourites

Saturday, 1 February 2014

Hello Ladies! This year I am going to try and get back into doing my monthly favourites posts. I used to do them back when I started blogging and they were some of my most popular posts at the time, but for one reason or another I just stopped doing them. But now that January is drawing to a close, it's time for my January Montly Favourites. I've tried out so many new products this January that most of these products have never been featured in any of my favourites posts, for once!

Bourjois 123 Perfect Foundation - I've been on a bit of a drugstore foundation binge this month and now that I've finally found some that I like, hopefully that phase is over and my bank card can come out of hiding! I've always liked Bourjois foundations, with the Healthy Mix and 10 Hour Sleep effect being favourites of mine, so I was hoping for great things from the 123 foundation and I was not dissapointed. It has colour correcting pigments which makes it quite yellow toned, this is perfect for me as I usually take a NW shade in MAC foundations which are more yellow toned but if you have cooler skin then this may not work for you. It has a fairly natural finish - not too matte, not too dewy - just smack bang in the middle. The wear time is average on my skin which I don't mind as I can always mix it with foundation built for a long wear time to make my make up last longer. What I really like about this foundation is the colour correcting aspect. It completely cancels out any redness which I have and makes my skin look a lot more even and healthier. I have a full review of this coming soon so I won't say any more, but I've really been loving this during January.

Max Factor 3 in 1 All Day Flawless Foundation - Keeping with the foundation theme, this Max Factor wonder has also made the cut this month. I bought this at the beginning of January as my housemate told he she thought it looked good, and I've been using it ever since. This foundation combines a primer, concealer and a foundation to give you a matte finish which lasts all day. This really does last alot longer than all of my foundations, more so than some of the higher end foundations I own. The only downside is that it can be the tiniest bit drying however, I don't find this to be an issue if I just mix in a little of a less matte foundation and make sure I moisturize before hand. This foundation also has great coverage due to the fact that it also contains a concealer, so it's great for long days at work or if your heading out straight from work and want your make up to last.

Benefit Lolli-Tint* - This is a more recent addition to my make up collection as I received this towards the end of January, but I couldn't leave it out as I have been in love with this product ever since it fell through my letter box. Lolli Tint is the latest addition to Benefit's Lip & Cheek Tint line and is a candy orchid pink colour. Its slightly darker than their other pink tint, Posie Tint and has purple undertones. I've been using this on my lips for about a week and a half now every day and it's just what I've been looking for from my lip colours. I wanted something with staying power and great pigmentation and Lolli-Tint certainly didn't disappoint. This is now available at Benefit counters and on their website.

MAC Vanilla Pigment - This is also another recent addition to my collection as I only received it at the beginning of the week but it was love at first swatch. I picked this up in a Blog Sale for around £5 for a barely used product, which is a complete bargain seeing as buying it directly from MAC would have set me back £17. This is a loose white powder with a slightly golden sheen to it, and oh my, it's beautiful. I've been using this as a highlight mainly but it is a multi use product, so you could use this as an eyeshadow or add it to your lipsticks to give them a frosty effect. I won't say too much more though as I have a full review of this product coming up, probably this week.

Maybelline Fit Me Concealer - January also saw the end of my Collection Lasting Perfection concealer, and the beginning of a concealer binge as I hunted for one good enough to replace it. The Fit Me concealer from Maybelline was recommended to me during one of the #bbloggers chats on Twitter and I can see why so many of you love it. It has a good coverage, is easy to blend and has a natural finish without drying my skin out. I don't have a bad word to say about this concealer and it has now become my HG concealer.

REN Invisible Pores Detox Mask - It wouldn't be right for me not to include this product in my January Favourites seeing as it has single handedly saved my skin this month. After Christmas and New Year my skin was terrible and even after weeks of trying to stop it from breaking out, nothing was working so I thought that maybe adding a mask into my routine may make a difference. This one was also recommended to me and my skin owes it to the girl who took the time to message me about this - you know who you are! My skin has honestly never looked better. It's clearer, my pores appear reduced and it's been a little less oilier. This mask does everything I want it to and more and I can see this being a firm favourite throughout the year.

L'Oreal Skin Perfection Day Cream - I's been hearing a few good things about this day cream while reading some of my favourite blogs so when I saw that it was half price in Boots, I couldn't resist putting it in my basket. This day cream acts as a moisturizer but also helps to correct your skin and blur imperfections. I use this in the mornings as I prefer a more intense moisturiser at night but I've really been liking this cream for the day time. It mattifies your skin and also reduces the appearance of pores, something I'm definitely in need of. My skin has been looking a lot better now that I've been using this with some other new skincare bits, such as the REN mask, and I really do owe it all to these new products as it's fair to say, my diet has been pretty poor.

So there you have it, I've finally posted a Monthly Favourites post again! If you would like me to carry on doing these kinds of posts please let me know in the comments below!
