Bourjois Healthy Mix Powder | Review

Sunday, 6 April 2014

Hello Beauties! For a while now I've been on the hunt for a drugstore alternative to my favourite powder, MAC Studio Sculpt. I asked for a few recommendations on twitter and apart from the Stay Matte which I don't like, this one was the most popular.

I've unfortunately hit pan once again on my MAC powder and although I love it, I just don't have the money at the moment to replace it, so while I was in Boots the other day I thought I would give this one a go. I picked up the shade 'Vanilla' which is the lightest shade it comes in, and also the same shade as my Bourjois foundations, and it's a pretty good match to my skin.

One thing I really love about this powder is the way it sits on your skin, it doesn't go cakey at all and looks even better than my MAC powder when it's first applied. However, as the day wore on my face started to feel quite sticky, a bit like I'd just applied my foundation without letting it dry and my skin started getting quite shiny. This wasn't a major issue as I brought the powder with me for top ups, but it isn't ideal.

The powder comes in a compact with a mirror which is always handy, but I would have liked it if it had come with a sponge so I didn't have to carry around my make up brushes for touch ups, especially for a night out when you've only got a little clutch. Another issue I had with this powder was that I found myself wasting a lot of product, when swirling my brush around it lead to a lot of excess powder all over my hands or on my clothes which was slightly annoying as I hate wasting make up.

Overall, I do quite like this powder as it does look good on my skin when it's first applied but it just doesn't beat my MAC powder (although its the closest I've come). For now, I'm going to continue using this as there's nothing wrong with the powder, but eventually I think I will end up replacing my MAC Studio Fix.

  1. I haven't tried Mac Studio Fix so I find this powder is great but I did have the same issue with the powder going everywhere which is annoying :/

  4. I've heard a few comparisons on this to the Chanel Les Beiges which is one of my all time favourite products but I'm dreading hitting pan and having to lay out the money for it again so might be worth my giving this a try!

  6. Great post! I'm using this powder and I'm in love with it. I put in the package a sponge from my previous powder. It's much better.

  9. I like it when I discover cheaper alternatives to more expensive products (need to look after the pennies). I have to set my makeup with a powder otherwise I end up like an oily mess & this Bourjois offering sounds like a great product

  10. I just bought the foundation and Im loving it, I was toying with the idea of getting the powder but decided against it. I might see how it goes with my translucent powder if not impressed I might get this powder to work with it. Fab post xxx

  11. I'm getting a bit bored of using the stay matte powder and this sounds like the perfect replacement, I'm used to topping up my powder so am willing to save money and buy cheaper versions x

  12. This sounds ideal for me actually, as I don't like powders being too matte. I much prefer the dewey, glowy look, so if this lets oils shine through then it's much more suited to what I like and prefer! Great, honest review! Xx
