Festival Makeup with E.L.F Cosmetics | FOTD

Tuesday, 15 April 2014

Hi Ladies! I hope your all having a brilliant week and are loving this sunshine we've been having! I've taken this week off work to chill out at home and I don't think I could have picked a better week with this beautiful weather we've been having! A little while ago Elf Cosmetics asked me if I would like to take part in their Festival Make Up Challenge and after spending the weekend being insanely jealous of everyone at Coachella, now seemed like a good time to show you all what I've created. I've tried to do this as a step by step tutorial instead of a regular FOTD which is why the post is a bit long, but please let me know if you prefer this way of doing it or if you think I should go back to my regular FOTD posts!

Step 1: The Base

Festivals require long lasting make up which will take you from day to night without melting away in the heat (or lack of it in the UK) so to start off, prime your face and apply your favourite long lasting foundation. I then applied the Elf Tone Correcting concealer under my eyes, over any spots, and also down my nose and forehead to highlight. I then blended this in using the Real Techniques expert face brush to ensure it looked natural.

Step 2: Cheeks

I really wanted to warm up and brighten my cheeks for this make up look so I used the Elf Baked Blusher in the shade in Rich Rose which is a slighty shimmery bronze colour with a marbled rose effect running through it. It creates a subtle warm bronze and really makes your cheeks pop. Next, I applied the Elf All Over Colour Stick in Persimmon to the tops of my cheeks to highlight them a little. This little stick is an excellent dupe for the Nars Multiples and is a very close colour match to the Benefit High Beam.

Step 3: Eyeshadow

#

As this is a festival make up look, I wanted to go for something bright on my eyes, but still wearable so I chose bright purple. I think purple is a really wearable alternative if you want a bright look and are a bit scared of having neon eyes! To create this eye look I used the purple shades from the Elf Little Black Book - Cool Edition palette. The palette is full of all kinds of crazy bright colours, so if your heading to a festival this summer it may be worth a look. To start off with I applied a medium purple colour all over my lid then went in and applied a darker violet colour through my crease to create dimension. I also took some of the medium purple colour and applied it under my eyes to really make the colour stand out.

Step 4: Mascara and Liner

The trick here is to go for waterproof liner and mascara, the heat, and all the dancing your doing will really take it's toll on your eye make up if you just use a regular mascara and liner. For this look I used the Elf Liquid Eyeliner in black as i find liquid liners stay put a lot better compared to pencil. I only lined my upper eye as this suits me better but if you want to go ahead and do your bottom lashes then that's great too. I then applied lashings of the Elf Waterproof Mascara (it comes in a duo with regular as well) to lengthen my lashes and make then stand out a bit more. I decided to skip false lashes here because I imagine they could be a bit of a nightmare at a festival but if your partial to your fake lashes then they would look great with this look.

Step 5: Lips

To finish off the look, I used the Elf Super Glossy Lip Shine in the shade Watermelon. The great thing about this gloss (apart from the pigmentation - which is great) is that it contains SPF 15. I always forget about my lips and burn them when I'm outside and if your going to be outside at a festival all day- SPF is a must!

The Finished Look:

I hope you liked this tutorial and if your going to a festival this summer I'd love to see which make up looks you create for the occasion!
