My 21st Birthday | What I Got Up To

Wednesday, 30 July 2014

Hello Beauties! I hope you're all having an amazing week and enjoying the remaining few weeks of Summer before it's back to school and Uni for a lot of us! Today I thought I would share with you what I got up to on my Birthday this year, as I felt like taking a break from all things beauty today.

This year, I was lucky enough to spend my 21st Birthday in Marco Island, South West Florida and I had an amazing time. Before we flew to America the week before, my parents told me that they had planned some surprise activities on the morning of my Birthday and my Brother then told me that we would be going on a Jet Ski tour of the Island. This made me so nervous as I hate going in the sea over there as I've been deep sea fishing so I've seen some of the sharks, etc in the water, and I really hate wet suits haha! They had me believing that this is what we would be doing right up until we arrived at our destination on the morning of my Birthday, I'd even taken sea sickness tablets and everything as I was so scared of going!

I was actually taken to the Naples Gun Range and Emporium in Naples, Florida. Here they offer shooting classes and have a gun range, as well as selling all of the necessary equipment. Firstly, we attended a gun safety class to make sure that we didn't accidentally shoot ourselves or anyone else, basically and make sure that we were being safe at all times. Then we attended a short class with one of the workers there who taught us how to use a revolver and a semi automatic fire arm. We were taught what the differences between the two were and how to properly use and load each one, and also what to do if they got jammed or broke, etc. At first I was a bit nervous, as I was completely rubbish at using the semi automatic gun (it's really heavy and you need to be strong/have practice to be able to use it if your anything like me!). After the class, we were then taken into the shooting range and given targets, we were given a quick recap of how to use the guns then we were allowed to practice our shooting on the targets. I was really shocked at how hard it was to use the guns, it's definitely nothing like in the movies and they are so incredibly loud! I know this kind of thing won't be for everyone, however I thoroughly enjoyed myself and would definitely go back! It was a great shout by my parents as it was something we could all enjoy, and its definitely something I will never forget (not your typical 21st activities!).

After we'd had our class, we stopped off for some lunch and headed home for a quick swim before heading out again. In the afternoon, me and my Mum spent some quality girly time at the local nail salon where we were treated to pedicures and acrylic nail extensions (I love having this done as I have terrible nails!) and I had a fab time getting pampered. After this, I headed home to get ready to go out for dinner and drinks that evening. If you'd like to see my make up from the night, I've posted a few pictures on my Instagram (@becky_derbyshire), but I opted for a golden smokey eye and neutral cheeks and make up, as the weather is so hot over here, anything else would just melt off!

That evening, we headed to my favourite local Italian restaurant, Da Vinci's on Marco Island. I started off with some cocktails and got to use my ID for the first time in America which I thought was still quite exciting despite being able to drink for three years in England haha! We then had a beautiful meal, and the staff at the restaurant surprised me with a beautiful birthday cake which was a surprise to all of us (they saw it was my birthday on my ID!).

I had an amazing 21st Birthday and its certainly a day I will never forget, and a massive thank you to everyone who wished me a Happy Birthday, I was so surprised to receive so many lovely messages and comments! I'm still in the States at the moment, so I won't be back to regular posting until some time next week, but until then I have some amazing guest bloggers to share with you all, so stay tuned for that!

Lots of Love,

Becky x x

  5. Glad you had a lovely birthday and rather envious of your shooting range experience. I'm tempted to do one in Vegas when I go.
