FOTD: My Everyday Make Up

Friday, 12 September 2014

Hello Beauties! I hope you're all well and have having a lovely week. I'm spending this week enjoying the last few days of freedom before Uni starts at the end of the month. I'm going into my fourth and final year which I am so nervous about, I've just taken a year off to get some experience working in my chosen field, and I know it's going to be difficult enough getting back into the swing of things, let alone with a dissertation and fourth year stresses to think about! Anyway, it's been a while since I've done an FOTD and while I have loads of make up looks I'd like to share with you all (I just need to get a half decent photograph of them!), I thought it would be easiest to start off by showing you my every day make up. I have a lot of make up, so you'd think that I would be constantly caked in make up and experimenting with my eyeshadow collection way more than I actually do. But the reality is, on an every day basis I pretty much go for the same look. Some of the products, such as foundation, may change as I test out new things, but the look itself stays pretty much the same.

For my base I start off by using the Porefessional Primer by Benefit, I have huge pores and very oily skin so this step is a must for me, and I find this primer to conceal my pores nicely...it doesn't so much in the way of shine but not much does on me! At the moment I'm using the Revlon Colourstay Foundation for Oily/Combination skin as I find this gives a fairly matte finish and stays pretty well on my skin, better than anything else I've tried. I do find this foundation a little thick though, so I usually apply it with a wet beauty blender, as this sheers out the foundation a little more, making it easier to work with. The Revlon Colourstay Foundation doesn't really do much in the way of hiding my dark circles and spots though, so I find I have to use my Maybelline Fit Me Concealer to go over any blemishes (I have a lot at the moment) and use the Trish McEvoy Instant Eye Lift to conceal any dark circles, it has salmon undertones making it great for fighting dark circles. I also powder my T-Zone with MAC's Studio Fix Powder in NW20. This step isn't necessary with this foundation as it's pretty matte anyway, but I think it makes it last that little bit longer and also gives me a little more coverage.

To add a bit of colour to my face, I use Nars Laguna Bronzer in my cheek bones and across the top of my forehead, then I add a little bit of the MAC Soft & Gentle Mineralize Skinfinish across the tops of my cheek bones just to add a bit of dimension to my face, as the foundation I use is quite matte. To finish off my face make up I add a bit of either 'Fearless' blusher by Tarte or 'Pink Swoon' by MAC, which are both gorgeous pink shades.

Next I move onto my brows. Eyebrows are so important and my face just does not look the same without them, and I often get asked what I use on my brows and honestly, I'm a little bit lazy. I have not been blessed with the words most perfectly full brows, far from it, so to make them look a little more full and shapely I use the Anastasia Brow Wiz pencil in fine hair like strokes to fill them out, then just dust a little of the powder from Benefit Brow Zings in Light along them to set it all and make them less harsh and thats it. For my eyes, I constantly find myself using the same two shades from the Urban Decay Naked 1 palette. Firstly I apply Half Baked all over my lid, then sweep a little Sidecar in my crease to define my eyes, then finish off by using an angled brush and Creep from the same palette to line my eyes. I then finish this off with either the Make Up Forever Smokey Mascara or the Bourjois Volume Glamour Curl Mascara and that's my eyes done! To finish off the look, I just sweep Lovelorn by MAC across my lips and away I go!

Lots of Love,

  3. Your make up is perfect! I go through phases with make up - I'm quite lazy in the mornings so I just hate taking the time to put it on - but I'd love to get more interested in it. I'm trying to build up a collection of essentials that will enhance me, but I'm a bit lost if I'm honest! Any advice would be welcome!
