Wonderful Advertisers | November

Saturday, 29 November 2014

Hello Beauties! I know I say this pretty much all the time but I honestly can't believe how quick this year is flying by! Its not under a month until Christmas Day, and in a few days we'll be opening the first doors of our advent calendars (not jealous at all of those of you with beauty advent calendars!) and now another month has passed by its time for me to introduce to you my November advertiser....

Hi everyone! I’m Jordan, a 22 year old beauty blogger, currently on medical leave from university with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. My blog focuses mainly on beauty reviews and hauls, although in the future I’d like to try some lifestyle posts. I set up my blog mainly because I’m sure my friends and family were getting fed up of me constantly telling them about my new favourite blushes or the new products I was looking forward to trying! It has also helped me to deal with my illness a lot, being bed-bound for days on end can get very boring & lonely! Although I haven’t been blogging for long, I absolutely love it! I hope if you pop by you enjoy reading my posts as much as I enjoy writing them! x

Do You Have To Be Beautiful To Be A Beauty Blogger?

Friday, 28 November 2014

Hello Beauties! I hope you're all well and are getting as excited for Christmas as I am. At the moment I'm drowning in Uni work with a couple of big deadlines on the horizon, so I will be happy to be able to finally give myself a few days rest over Christmas for sure! Anyway, today I wanted to talk about a topic which I've been thinking about for a while.

I've often heard that beauty bloggers are only successful due to their looks and while I wouldn't really class myself as one of the beautiful ones, a lot of lovely bloggers seem to have that opinion when they comment on my FOTD posts, which has led to a couple of questions and remarks surrounding the question 'Do you have to be beautiful to be a successful beauty blogger?'.

When you look at the top beauty bloggers, and the blogging community as a whole, it's difficult not to notice how beautiful all of the top bloggers are. They all share the same flawless skin, stunning hair and a dress sense to die for, but what really stands out to me is their personalities. The reason those bloggers are successful has nothing to do with looks. Sure, maybe it helped them get there as everyone likes to follow people they aspire to look like, etc but what really got those bloggers there is the hard work and effort they put into their blogs, along with the right personality and I guess a pinch of luck.

When I look at a new blog for the first time, what I'm really interested in is their reviews - how detailed they are, if they share the same skin type/tastes as me, etc - not what they look like in their profile picture and I actually think that part of the charm bloggers posses is that they aren't all supermodel copies. I'd much prefer to read a review of a skincare product from someone who struggles with their skin, as I feel that it will be more helpful to me as I too struggle with my skin, rather than read one from someone who has perfect skin regardless.

Beauty Blogging has opened people's eyes to ordinary women in my opinion. Before I was into reading blogs, I would rely on magazines for my beauty inspo, as my friends weren't particularly interested in make up and skincare. However when I look back now, the reason I was disappointed in most products was because they didn't perform some miracle and make me look like the girls in magazines, whereas now I have something realistic to compare my results to, I am much happier with my products and the way I look in general.

So my answer is no, you don't have to be beautiful to be a beauty blogger. I would by no stretch of the imagination consider myself to be beautiful, I have more than my fair share of flaws which I'm sure most of you are aware of, but at the end of the day I'm human like everyone else- and if I can be a beauty blogger then anyone with a passion for the industry can too, regardless of what they look like. Put in the hard work and effort, and you'll get there eventually.

Lots of Love,

Christmas Gift Guide | Flamingo Gifts

Wednesday, 26 November 2014

Hello Beauties and welcome to my second Christmas Gift Guide post! It's almost December now which means that the big day is fast approaching which I am so excited about. Christmas is my favourite time of the year and I just love everything about it. Today I thought I would share with you a recent discovery of mine which is perfect for Christmas Shopping - Flamingo Gifts. Flamingo Gifts is an online gift shop with something for everyone, and it stocks lots of brilliant brands (I have my eye on some of their Ted Baker items!). I was fortunate enough to pick a few items to show you all, so I will just get on with showing you, as there is a couple to get through!

This is by far my favourite gift from Flamingo Gifts. I already have another Lolita wine glass which I got for the 21st Birthday and I thought the Tiara one would be the perfect one to add to my collection (if you can call 2 a collection!). I just love these glasses and I'm hoping to pick up a few more so that I have more of a whole set for when I get my own place again. I think these are the perfect gifts as there are so many designs available and each one comes with a personalised cocktail recipe on the bottom.

This one is perfect for any crazy cat ladies out there like myself. Every year my cats are subject to playing dress up, and since they ate their Santa hat in protest, this cat unicorn horn is an ideal replacement. Christmas wouldn't be complete without a few funny, novelty gifts and this is perfect - even if my cats don't quite agree!

This is the first thing I've ever tried from Bomb Cosmetics and although I don't love them as much as Lush (Sorry Bomb Cosmetics!), I still think that this would make the perfect gift for any girls in your life. The gift set comes beautifully wrapped which takes out some of the work for you and includes 5 christmassy bath bombs. They are all super moisturising and sparkly, so perfect for any girly girls out there.

My Mum actually chose this and now has it displayed in her kitchen along with all of her other silver accessories. I wasn't too sure I liked this when she chose it, but when it arrived it was just so cute. Our neighbours make their own honey, so this will be perfect for displaying that or even just to have sitting on the kitchen side. I think this gift would be perfect for any budding chefs out there or anyone who just loves to accessorise their kitchen.

What are you hoping for this Christmas? I'd love to hear all of your gift ideas!

Lots of Love,

Blogging Has Taught Me...

Monday, 24 November 2014

Hello Beauties! I was thinking the other day about how much my life has changed since starting Lipgloss & Lashes and all of the things which I owe to my little corner of the internet and I thought it would be nice to share some of thing things I've learnt with you all. I'd love to know what you've all learnt if you're a blogger so please let me know in the comments below!

1. It's okay to believe in yourself

When I started Lipgloss & Lashes I had zero self confidence. I'd come out of a bad relationship and lost a lot of my friends through this, which completely shattered my self confidence. I had grown to believe that I was unable to achieve and that I had nothing to be proud of, and starting my blog has completely changed that. I still have a long way to go before I would call myself a confident person but my confidence has definitely improved in leaps and bounds since I started my blog. I no longer feel like I have to hide my blog from people and am quite open about it, although some people will never understand. So I just want to say a bit thank you to everyone who supports me on here and leaves me comments, I may not always have the time to reply because final year Uni is the toughest thing I've ever taken on, but I read every single one and every lovely comment makes me the happiest girl.

2. Haters Gonna Hate

It's inevitable that not everyone you meet in life will like you, harsh but true. Throughout my life I've always had people who have hated me for one reason or another, and thats okay as it's just a fact of life. However, once you start putting yourself out there on the internet, that hate then intensifies. You then get people who you've never met hating on you for reasons such as 'her forehead is too big'. I did fall victim to this earlier this year and at the time it did upset me, but I haven't let that stop me and it's definitely taught me to deal with hate and nastiness in new ways. I'm no longer phased when people don't like me and it doesn't upset me anymore, you just have to be you and the ones that matter will stick around.

3. Blogging girls (and boys) are some of the nicest you'll ever meet

When I started my blog, I never thought that I would meet friends through my blog. I've met some lovely girls through blogging at events or just as 'internet friends' and I couldn't be happier. I think because everyone has something in common, it makes getting along so much easier and I can honestly say that everyone I've met through blogging have been super nice and I see myself being friends for years, even if we quit blogging. Now that I don't live in London, it is a lot harder to meet blogging friends, but hopefully I will get the change to meet some Bournemouth and Southampton bloggers soon!

4. Being a blogger isn't as glamorous as it may seem

Before starting a blog, all I saw were the glossy Instagram photos of bloggers in all their glory, now that I am actually a blogger I realise that this is only half of the story. The Instagram pictures only show you the pretty side of blogging, when all we do is sip champagne and swatch lipsticks but in reality were all just sat in bed tapping away at our keyboards. And if were not doing that, were scouring the house looking for the perfect lighting for blog photos. Being a blogger is hard work and time consuming but for me its a labour of love, I really wouldn't have it any other way.

5. Others will never understand why you do it

I've spoken to plenty of people about my blog, from all walks of life and while the most part is supportive, a lot of people will just not understand why you would want to write about things in your spare time. Everyone is different and I never question people who play sports in their spare time, and I guess blogging is just my 'sports', as in its my hobby - I don't actually think blogging is a sport, unless you could the 'yoga' positions we get ourselves into to take the perfect shot of an eyeshadow!

Dior Fall Look 'Carre Bleu' Palette | Review & Swatches

Friday, 21 November 2014

Hello Beauties! I hope you're all well and are having a great week. I have yet another Uni deadline looming so I'm spending most of my time in the library at the moment which isn't what I would consider fun! I just have to keep reminding myself that in a couple of months it will all be over and I will be able to go into the world of work, which is what I really want. Anyway, earlier this month it was my Mums birthday and I decided to get her the Dior Couleurs Palette in Carre Bleu which is part of their Fall Collection 2014. I know that she loves blue eyeshadows and Dior palettes so when I saw this limited edition one I knew it was meant to be. She kindly let me test it out and review it here on Lipgloss & Lashes, as it was just too pretty to not show you all.

The Dior 5 Couleurs Palette in Carre Bleu comes with five slivery blue shades, perfect for creating either a day time look or a more smoky glam, night out look. The palette comes with a powder blue shade which is almost matte, however it does have some very subtle silver shimmer running through it, a silvery white shade perfect for highlighting your brow bone and inner corner, or just as an overall lid colour. It also contains an ocean blue colour with blue shimmer running through it, a midnight blue/almost black shade with a navy blue shimmer running through it which looks beautiful in the outer corners of your eyes or even as a liner if you don't want a dramatic look. The middle shade is a shimmery blue-grey colour which looks great in a blue smoky eye look or just on its own.

Although Dior shadows are expensive (around £40 for a palette, although I did get 10% off this), I do think that you get what you pay for with this brand. Each of the shadows are highly pigmented and buttery, and they blend like a dream. I find it really hard to do a smokey look but with this palette, the colours just blend in amazingly meaning I can avoid the dreaded 'black eye look'. I'd say that if you are thinking of going for a Dior palette though, go for shades that you know you will get a lot of wear from. As they are so expensive, Dior isn't really the place to go for electric brights but for an everyday palette that you can also glam up, Dior is the one. I have a purple one and a golden one on my wish list!

Bath & Bodyworks Teakwood and Mahogany Candle

Wednesday, 19 November 2014

Hello Beauties! I hope you're well and enjoying the week so far. If you've followed me for a while or saw my recent post on the Bath & Bodyworks Hand Santitisers (here), then you'll know that back in July I was in the US for a few weeks and just couldn't resist picking up a few bits from Bath & Bodyworks. I did have a weight limit to stick to (and I'd already bought half of Sephora) so I had to limit myself to just picking up some of their tiny candles, which is what I'm going to talk about today.

They didn't have much of their regular range of candles at the store I went to as they had all of their limited edition summer stock in, however I did manage to find a few little candles which took my fancy. I decided to pick up two of the little Mahogany Teakwood candles and one Citrus Sandalwood candle, as they have very similar scents - both smell a lot like aftershave if you're wondering about the other one I picked up.

Now, on to my favourite candle ever...Mahogany Teakwood. If any of you know me, then you'll know that I'm obsessed with the Abercrombie & Fitch Fierce Cologne (it's the one they spray on all of their clothes and in their stores)  so imagine my excitement when I found a candle that smells exactly like it! Now my room can permanently smell like an Abercrombie store, well at least until the candle runs out and I couldn't be happier.

If you love the Abercrombie smell like I do, then I'd really recommend going and picking this one up. I really wish I'd bought it in the full size now, so I shall be hunting it down on eBay, hopefully I can get it at a decent price!

Lots of Love,

Lipgloss & Lashes Has Moved!

Tuesday, 18 November 2014

Hi Beauties! I hope you're all well and enjoying the week so far!

This is just a quick post to let you all know that now you can find my blog at www.lipgloss-and-lashes.co.uk. I finally decided to purchase my own domain after thinking about it for a while and in order to get my Bloglovin' account moved over to the new domain, I had to publish a post letting you all know about the move.

KIKO Kiss Balm | Benefit Lollibalm Dupe

Monday, 17 November 2014

Hello Beauties! Back in September I went down to London for the day to get my hair done and catch up with a few of my friends from when I used to live there, and while I was there I didn't want to miss the opportunity to pop into the Kiko store on Regent Street. When I used to live there, I wasn't too fussed with Kiko, I hadn't heard much about the brand and I was more interested in the higher end brands which I suddenly had access to, but since I can no longer just pop into a Kiko store, I now want everything...always the way, isn't it?

Anyway, after fighting through the crowds on the top floor of the store (always go downstairs, not many people know about it and its much quieter!) I spotted some lipsticks which looked very similar to the new releases from Benefit so I had to stop and have a look. Kiko have 7 shades available, 4 of which look very similar to the Benefit Benebalms, and since I wanted Lollibalm so bad, I thought I would try out the Passion Fruit (104) Kiss Balm as it looked identical...right down to the packaging.

The Kiko Kiss Balms offer your lips a sheer tint of colour and are packed with shea butter and vitamins to moisturise dry lips, providing instant relief. I personally love tinted lip balms, my lips always get quite dry around this time of year and I see no reason for having to go for a boring plain lip balm when you can get one which acts as a lipstick. Passion Fruit is an orchid pink colour which is exactly the same as the Lollitint colour from Benefit and the product is pretty much exactly the same as the Benefit balms for a fraction of the price.

The Kiss Balms are currently on sale for £4.10 on the Kiko website, which is an absolute steal. I adore these lip balms as they give me enough colour to complete a look and I find them really moisturising. I also love the sleek shiny packaging, they're just perfect for popping in your bag if you're going to be out all day. I'd really recommend these to anyone who wants to try the Benefit lip balms but are put off my the price as these are an excellent dupe!

Bath & Bodyworks Hand Sanitisers | Review

Friday, 14 November 2014

Back in July I headed over to Miami for a few weeks to celebrate my 21s Birthday, and while I was there I couldn't resist popping into Bath & Bodyworks to pick up a few bits, these hand sanitisers being top of my list. Everything in that store smells incredible and it was really hard not to come out with about 15 candles but as I had a weight limit to think about I had to limit myself to just a few hand sanitisers and some small candles, I really didn't need any more body products although it was hard to resist.

As I went in July, most of the scents were summer or beach themed which is fine by me as I love anything fresh or tropical, however I am a bit sad that I couldn't get my hands on some of the cute Autumn or 'Fall' themes as I've heard great things about them. I decided to pick up Malibu Sunset, Perfect Beach Day, Pure Paradise and Anjou Pear which clearly isn't a Summer one. All of them smell lovely and beachy, either nice and fresh or sweet and tropical and I couldn't be happier with my picks. I did originally pick up 5 as they sell them for 5 for $5 which is an absolute bargain, however my friend really wanted one so I gave one to her as a little present.

I'm the type of person who carries hand sanitizers everywhere, as you never know what situation you might end up in, and I really love these ones as they don't have that nasty chemical/alcohol smell that most hand santizers have. These ones actually smell like the scent they are aiming for unlike a lot of the ones we have in the UK, which just smell overpoweringly of chemicals.

If you're heading to the US, I'd definitely pick some of these up on your travels. They're perfect for when you're on the go and just so handy!

Jimmy Choo Eau De Parfum | Review

Wednesday, 12 November 2014

Hello Lovelies! This year I was lucky enough to be sent the Vivabox by the Perfume Shop, which came with a perfume voucher, to review here on Lipgloss & Lashes and last Wednesday I headed over to West Quay in Southampton to pick up a new Autumn fragrance from the selection in the box. I decided to go with the Jimmy Choo Eau de Parfum as it was my favourite from the box and a scent which I've had on my wish list for ages now.

The Jimmy Choo Eau De Parfum supposedly expresses an aura of strength, beauty and dazzling femininity. It has a modern floral-fruity scent with top notes of ginger and pear, mid-notes of tiger orchid and tea rose to create the floral part of the scent and woody base notes with patchouli to give it its deep sophisticated smell, but without being too 'old-ladyish' (in my opinion).

Personally, I think this perfume smells of raspberries, it has a sweet (but not too sweet) fruity smell with a hint of a floral smell. It's quite a deep perfume so I would definitely save this one for the winter time or for nights out as I much prefer light fruity scents during the summertime. I also love the packaging of this fragrance, I think it looks quite elegant and classy sitting on my dressing table and I've found myself reaching for this more often than not on those cold winter morning.

Obviously perfume is very personal and everyone likes different scents, but if you like fruity or sweet smells and are looking for something a bit deeper for winter time, then I'd definitely recommend giving this one a sniff next time you're in the perfume shop!

The Glow Getters | Best Products For Adding A Winter Glow

Monday, 10 November 2014

Now that winter is upon us and the central heating has been whacked up to full, its a little harder to keep that radiant glow about our skin. I love highlighters and went through a phase of buying them all last year, so I thought I would share some of my top picks for adding that 'winter glow' to our skin, because who doesn't want to look youthful and glowing?

There's no denying that this highlighter is an absolute bargain. Although this is listed as a blush on their website, it's definitely a highlighter. This is a cream powder with a really pretty golden/yellow toned sheen which is perfect for adding an everyday subtle highlight to the tops of your cheek bones. And you really can't go wrong at £3.95. e.l.f have also just released a line of baked highlighters which look interesting (very MAC MSF looking) so if you prefer a little more sparkle and still want a purse friendly option, they might be a good one to try.

Benefit Watts Up is a cream highlighter in stick form, so it's sure to be a winner for any of you who love using cream products. I'm not a typical cream product fan (I just can't make cream blushers work) however I really love this highlighter. It's a lovely champagne colour which adds a soft focus glow to the skin. It also comes with a little blending sponge for really getting that flawless natural look which I love. It's a little more on the pricey side, but I definitely think it's worth it if you're a highlighter fan, and this stays put all day so it's sure to be a winner for anyone who has to endure long working days!

Now on to one of my absolute favourites and a multi-use product. MAC's Vanilla Pigment is a beautiful ivory white colour with the prettiest creamy champagne shimmer running through it. This blends excellently into your cheek bones creating a subtle airbrushed look and I just can't stress enough how beautiful this product is. It can be used in any areas you wish to highlight, as an eyeshdow or to make any of your lipsticks frosty so you're definitely getting your moneys worth with this product. MAC have also started making 'sized to go' pigments too which I think is a brilliant idea. The full size pigments, although I love them, are absolutely huge for how much product you need to use to get the desired effect, so I'd much rather buy a little one and use it all!

Last but by no means least (this is actually my favourite of the bunch),  we have the MAC Mineralise Skin Finish in Soft & Gentle. The MAC MSF's are beautiful shimmery powders which are perfect for highlighting the face. Soft & Gentle is a beautiful peachy champagne colour which looks perfect on your cheek bones or even down the centre of your legs if you're on a night out. It blends into the skin effortlessly and isn't too much to use on an everyday basis - it's also the perfect winter glow product.

Swatches (L-R) - MAC Vanilla Pigment, e.l.f Gotta Glow, Benefit Watts Up and MAC Soft & Gentle:

November Birchbox | What's Inside?

Saturday, 8 November 2014

Hello Beauties! I hope you're all doing well and have some fun plans for the weekend! Let me just start off this post by saying that this is one of my favourite Birchboxes that I've received over the past few months. It included two full size samples, so you're definitely getting your moneys worth! Anyway, on to the products that I received...

O.P.I Coca-Cola Red Nail Polish (Full Size)

When the post man dropped off this months Birchbox I was so excited as it felt a lot heavier than the normal boxes that I've been receiving (yes, I am still that person at Christmas who rips into the biggest present first!) and this product was one of the reasons why. I was so happy to receive this product as OPI are one of my favourite nail polish brands, but they're also a bit pricy so they are only really a treat for me. I also love how I received this beautiful red colour. Red is such a classic colour and it will be perfect for the Christmas season!

Jane Iredale Purelash Lash Extender & Conditioner (Sample)

I wasn't really sure what this product was when I first pulled it out of the box, as it was just a little clear tube filled with white liquid however after a little research, I'm really happy to have received this sample. The Purelash Lash Extender and Conditioner is a protecting formula designed to strengthen and lengthen lashes and is something that you just apply under your mascara. I've always been interested in trying these lash extending products, but I've always been a bit skeptical so haven't ever wanted to pay for a full size product, so I'm happy to have a little sample to test out before buying a full size product.

Beauty Protector Protect & Treat Hair Mask (Sample)

I actually thought that this was a face mask when I first pulled it out of the box, the packing isn't the best at explaining the uses haha! It's actually a hair mask packed with argan oil, honey, amber and crushed pearls (ooh-la-la!). I haven't used this yet but you do get two samples of this so you can try it out a couple of times, although I have long hair so it will probably only be enough for one or two tests for me. I put my hair through a lot on a daily basis so I love trying out hair masks to try and restore it to it's former glory (pre-straightening days!).

Dr Jart + Pore Refine Recover Primer (Full Size)

I was SO happy when I pulled this one out of the box, despite buying a primer earlier in the day (a girl can never have too many, right?). Dr Jart + is a range I've heard a lot about, particularly their base product, so I was over the moon to get a full size primer in this months box - and it's worth £15.95 so way more than the box itself! The primer is a mattifying primer that minimises pores and imperfections for a flawless base, I haven't tested this out yet so I can't vouch for it but when I tried it on the back of my hand it felt like a cross between the Benefit Porefessional and the Maybelline Baby Skin primer, except maybe a little thinner and more luxurious. I really struggle with oily skin and huge pores so I'm hoping for big things from this primer!

Weleda Lavendar Relaxing Body Oil (Sample)

I have to say, this was the only disappointing product for me, not because it's a bad product but I just really don't like the smell of lavender. However, it is a pretty hefty sample size so it will be perfect for popping on your pillow while travelling if you struggle to sleep. I think I will give this one to my Mum though as I just really can't stand the smell!

Montezuma's Mini Bar

Birchbox really do know the way to a girls heart...make up and chocolate! I'm a big chocolate lover so I was happy to receive this in the November box! The theme is cosy at home and I think this one goes perfectly with the theme. I always like to carry around something sweet in my handbag too as I suffer very badly from migraines and my tablets with something sweet is usually what I need to get through one, so this mini bar is perfect...well it would be, if I hadn't already eaten it!

Overall, I really love this months Birchbox*. I think it's amazing value for money this month as you get two full size products and a couple of little samples. If you would like to sign up to Birchbox or see their price plans, you can do so here

L'Oreal Nude Magique Eau De Tient Foundation | Review

Friday, 7 November 2014

Hello Lovelies! If you read one of my recent posts, then you'll know that I'm a complete foundation junkie (and proud). The most recent addition to my ever growing foundation collection is the L'Oreal Nude Magique Eau De Tient. I decided to pick this up after trying a sample of the new YSL foundation as I'd heard that they had some similar qualities. I liked how thin and weightless the YSL foundation was but it didn't last long enough on my skin for me to justify the price, and I saw that this foundation was offering the same thin and weightless feel so off I went to the till.

First things first, the packaging. The L'Oreal Nude Magique Eau De Tient comes in a small, thin glass bottle which I actually really like. It is a lot smaller than most foundations out there and you do only get 20ml instead of your usual 30ml but this foundation is perfect for popping in your handbag or for travelling.

The foundation claims to be a feather light foundation which feel as light and fresh as water. It claims to instantly fuse with skin, blending seamlessly to provide a silky second skin effect. Now these are some pretty big claims to be making and for the most part, I think it does quite well to live up to expectations. Before you use the foundation you really have to shake the bottle well, as it does have a tendency to separate in the bottle and the packaging does advise that you give it a good shake before use. The formula really is super thin and light, and it does have a similar consistency to water.

But does it really blend effortlessly to create a second skin effect? I have to say that this foundation was super easy to blend and you really couldn't see it on your skin. However, the shade range and coverage it offers aren't brilliant. I have the lightest shade and it's still a little too dark for me (I wear NW13 in MAC for reference) which isn't too much of a problem as I find that it blends in so easily that you can hardly notice, but it would still be nice if drugstore brands offered a wider range of shades for us paler ladies. Also, I was a little disappointed by the coverage. It's definitely a light, sheer coverage which I think you could build up to just about medium, but it would take quite a lot of effort, so I mainly reserve this foundation for 'no makeup' days and days where I feel I have good enough skin.

Another thing I really like about this foundation is the liquid to powder effect. I really struggle with my oily skin and I find that this foundation lasts a good couple of hours, giving me a soft matte finish..more along the lines of 'matte but not flat' so it's perfect for my oily skin as long as I set it with powder.

Overall, I do like this foundation as I hate the feel of heavy 'sticky' foundations but it would be so much better if it offered just smidge more coverage for me personally. I think you'd really like this foundation if you don't feel the need to completely cover your skin but you just want something to help even everything out and reduce any redness. I think it would be the perfect foundation for school days too as it's nothing too heavy or detectable.

What is your favourite drugstore foundation? I'd love to know which one to pick up next!

Lots of Love,

Becky x x

The Christmas Gift Guide: Beauty Lovers

Hello Beauties! Now that it's November I thought I would start publishing some of my Christmas Gift Guides. I decided not to do these last year as I felt that every blogger and their Mum was publishing them but this year there are just so many amazing products out there that would make wonderful Christmas presents, so I couldn't not share them all with you! I'm also hoping to publish some more festive make up looks as well throughout the festive season so make sure to keep a look out for them. To start off my Christmas posts I thought I would post my favourite gift guide by far...the beauty lovers guide. I fall in love with the hundreds of Christmas related gift sets each year but this year there are some which really stood out and caught my eye...

This year Benefit's Christmas Collection is 'Sweet Shoppe' themed with lots of cute 'sweet treats' sets. I'm a big fan of the Benefit Christmas Collections every year as they give you the chance to try out a whole range of their products for a fraction of the price, and the mini sizes always come in handy! The Fin Size Flirts kit contains 10 of their best selling items in mini form: The PoreFessional (a favourite of mine), They're Real Mascara, Bad Gal Lash, Instant Comeback Facial Serum, That Gal Primer, Dandelion Blush, Sun Beam, Posietint, Ooh La Lift, and Stay Don't Stray Primer. I think that Benefit have done well with this gift set, as they have included products from their whole range, so it would be perfect for anyone just getting into make up or the brand and make up lovers alike.

I just couldn't create this gift guide without adding in one or two products from the Too Faced Christmas Collection. Too Faced is a brand that I've only just got in to (and I've LOVED everything that I've tried!) and I have to say, their Christmas collection is the one I've looked forward to most this year, and it didn't disappoint. Firstly, isn't that packaging just gorgeous? It's every girly glitter lovers dream. This palette is my favourite from the collection and if I had to choose just one thing it would be this one. The Beauty Wishes and Sweet Kisses palette contains 3 eyeshadows from the famous Chocolate Bar Palette, their Chocolate Soliel Bronzer (a favourite of mine) and the Snow Bunny Bronzer and on top of all of that you also get a mini La Creme Gloss which is set to launch next year. I'm pretty sure any beauty lover or all round girly girl would be over the moon to receive this from Santa, I know I would!

Now that Sephora deliver to the UK (can I get a hallelujah?!) we now have access to items which we didn't before, like this beautiful Christmas gift from Too Faced. The La Belle Carrousel contains six mini palettes which can either be given together or split up - perfect for stocking fillers if you have a lot of girls to buy for. Each palette contains a number of eyeshadows, blushers and bronzers and you get a Better Than Sex Mascara with the kit. It's perfect for any Too Faced fans you might know and the handy size of the palettes make them perfect for travelling.

Unfortunately this is another product which you would have to order from Sephora if you're from the UK, but I think its definitely worth it. Tarte blushers are one of my all time favourites and I would kill to get my hands on this palette. It contains a number of different blush shades making it suitable for tonnes of different skin tones and comes in this cute golden palette. I don't know any beauty lover who wouldn't love to receive this and I hope I can get my hands on it from the US!

I actually went to the launch of this perfume earlier this year and I've had my eye on it ever since. It has a sweet caramel scent and comes in the cutest little bow bottle so I'd definitely recommend going and giving this a whiff, even if it does end up as a cheeky christmas gift to yourself (I can't be the only one guilty of doing this!).

I adore Ted Baker, he's one of my favourite designers and has been for years now so it's only fitting that I include one of his wash bags in this gift guide. I chose this little pink one with a bow (seriously cute) however I love them all so this is more of a generic item on the list. I think Ted Baker wash bags are seriously cute and they're quite roomy considering their size. I also like that they have the plastic effect coating which is great for wiping away any make up spillages.

I am seriously in love with this palette. I have a bit of a thing for the Benefit Boxed Blushers, they always suck me in with their adorable packaging and as you probably already know, I'm a sucker for anything girly, especially if it comes in palette form. This palette contains 6 of their Box O'Powders and a Watts Up sample to ensure that your cheeks will be the envy of everyone. Also, the blushers aren't that much smaller than their regular ones, making this amazing value for money. I'm a bit gutted that Hervana didn't make an appearance as it is my favourite, but I'll let that one slide as this is just so darn cute.

And to finish off this (not so little) gift guide...the most amazing Too Faced palette...ever. The Everything Nice Palette contains 20 eyeshadows (yes, 20!) in a every kind of shade you could want from neutral, to pinks and purples, olive tones and some funkier colours too for good measure. It also contains 4 blushers and bronzers to complete your look and comes with a pretty pink make up bag as a little added extra. For me, this is the ultimate christmas beauty gift this year, apart from the Naked Vault but I don't think I'll ever be the proud owner of that one!

What beauty gifts are you putting on your Christmas list this year? Let me know in the comments below as I'd love some inspiration for my own wish list!

L'Oreal True Match Mineral Powder Foundation | Review

Monday, 3 November 2014

Hello Beauties! If you read my blog regularly then you'll know that I'm a tad obsessed with foundations. And when I say obsessed I mean I own about 10 and thats after a major clear out, way more than any one person could ever use up but I can't seem to stop myself buying them (this will be proven later on this week when I publish yet another foundation review) and on a recent trip to Boots I decided to try out the L'Oreal True Match Mineral Powder Foundation

I originally picked this foundation up as I thought a powder foundation would offer me a longer lasting matte finish, but I'd clearly not done my research (proof of my impulse buying yet again!) as powder foundations do not necessarily result in a matte finish. I'm not too sure why I picked this up to be honest, as I hated the L'Oreal True Match in the liquid form and ended up giving it away, despite it being a blogger favourite, however I do really like it in mineral powder form. I picked up the colour W1 or Golden Ivory which is completely the wrong colour for me as I'm anything but golden but I do manage to make it work as it is light enough for me, maybe just a bit too yellow toned as I do have very pink toned skin.

The foundation comes in a little pot with a brush which I think it is a nice idea, kind of like its the equivalent of having a pump on liquid foundations. I did find that the powder was quite hard to get out at first as it was quite full but as the pot has emptied out it now comes out with just a little tap.

Now, on to the actual foundation...this is my first mineral powder foundation so I was a little skeptical that it would provide me with any coverage, but I have to say this provides a great medium build-able coverage and covers everything that I would want it to, including dark circles under my eyes and all of my blemishes. What I really like about this foundation is how it feels on my skin. I have very oily skin so foundations tend to feel slightly 'sticky' on me which let me tell you, is not a nice feeling, however this one feels so light and smooth, like I'm hardly wearing anything at all. It also makes my powder products such as setting powder and bronzer/blusher blend so much easier into my foundation to create a more natural looking, flawless effect.

As I said, I have very oily skin and I can never find foundations which stay put on my skin or that don't sink into my huge pores. The L'Oreal True Match Mineral Powder Foundation has a satin finish, definitely not matte, but also not too shiny for my liking and it lasts pretty well. I usually put my make up on before I drive to Uni around half 6 in the morning and it seems to keep its finish until around lunch time when I would need to top up my powder to get rid of some shine which has crept through. I also really liked how it didn't separate on my skin and it smoothed over my pores all day.

Overall, I really like this foundation and it has become my 'go-to' foundation recently despite it being something completely different than what I'm used to - I guess I should branch out more! I do need to pick this up in a slightly more pink toned finish though to make it look more natural so as soon as I spy one I will definitely be picking it up.

Have you tried any mineral powder foundations? I'd love to know your favourites as I now see myself as a bit of a convert!

Caudalie Divine Scrub | Review

Saturday, 1 November 2014

Hello Beauties! I hope you're all well and are looking forward to the weekend, I know I am! Caudalie aren't a brand which I have tried many products from, mainly as they're quite hard to find where I live, however I am a big fan of their Divine Oil. So when I heard that this was also available as a scrub, I jumped at the chance to try it.

The Caudalie Divine Scrub* smells heavenly. It smells very similar to the oil, if you've ever smelt that and has a beautiful light, floral, spa-like scent which lingers on your skin after use. This is a sugar scrub and contains brown sugar to help scrub away and dead skin cells and I have to say, it works brilliantly. It's not an extremely rough scrub so it would be perfect for sensitive skin, but you can still feel it working which is what I look for in my exfoliators. However, what I really like about this scrub is how moisturising it feels. The Caudalie Divine Scrub contains Grape, Argan, Hibiscus and Sesame oils to help soften your skin and they really do work. My skin has never felt as soft as it did after using this scrub. It was like a whole new skin, and I really didn't feel the need to moisturise after using this scrub which is perfect if you're lazy like me!

At first the scrub is quite thick, but after a few seconds it starts to melt like butter into your skin which allows you to really work with the scrub - perfect for scrubbing off any old fake tan you may have lingering on your skin!

Overall, I really love this scrub and it's a very welcome edition to my shower. The plant oils also make it perfect for winter time when your skin needs a little moisture boots to combat the central heating effect.

Lots of Love,
