e.l.f Smudge Pots | Review & Swatches

(L-R: Gotta Glow, Back to Basics, Cruisin Chic, Brownie Points, Hit the Town, Ocean Blue)

Hello Beauties! I have a slight confession to make, this post is seriously overdue. I should have had these products in my hands well over a month ago as they were sent to me (I assume - there was no note) for the launch of the e.l.f Smudge Pots, but unfortunately they were sent to my old work address so it took me a while to get them back to me and then have a chance to give each colour a good test before I reviewed them, so for that I'm so sorry!

Anyway, moving onto the review...The e.l.f Smudge Pots are smooth gel formula eyeshadows designed to glide on perfectly. e.l.f claim that these cream shadows are designed to be long lasting and can be used as either an eyeliner or an eyeshadow (I do love a good multi use product!). They are also enriched with Vitamin E to nourish and hydrate the delicate eye area. The range has 6 colours which are all pictured above, and as you can see they've released some lovely neutral shades. I love cream eyeshadows and was particularly fond of the Maybelline Colour Tattoo's but the one thing I was disappointed in with the Maybelline offering was the shade range. There were only two shades which I could actually see myself wearing, whereas with this range from e.l.f I find that the shades are a lot more wearable for creating everyday looks - perfect!

Each shadow comes in a clear plastic tub with a white lid, which I do think looks cheap but you really can't complain when these are an absolute steal at £2.95 each. But packaging aside, what was the formula like? Well, it was brilliant. The shadows are super creamy and the gel like consistency blends out effortlessly. These shadows work amazingly under other eyeshadows as a base, or just on their own. When I'm in a rush I just pop one of the lighter colours over my eyes and I'm good to go in record time. These are also super long lasting, and I mean these things just won't budge. It took me hours to get them off my arm after I swatched them all for you, so if your going to wear these make sure you've got a good eye makeup remover at your disposal as a face wipe just won't cut it. I can put these shadows on at 6am when I get ready to go to Uni and they won't have moved an inch by the time I get home at 6pm, so if you're a girl on the go then I'd highly recommend picking a few of these up as the lasting power is far superior of that of the MAC Paint Pots or Maybelline Colour Tattoos.

The range contains 6 shades, all shimmers:

Ocean Blue - A pigmented navy colour which I like to use as eyeliner, I find this way too dark to make it work for me as an eyeshadow but it really does make an excellent eyeliner with lasting power to rival that of the Benefit They're Real Liner.

Hit The Town - Again, this is a shade which I reserve solely for lining my eyes. It's a beautiful metallic grey colour which makes a great alternative to black or brown eyeliner to spruce up your everyday make up.

Brownie Points - A very pigmented copper toned bronze/brown shade. Again, this is slightly too dark to look good on me as an eyeshadow, but it makes a great eyeliner and I imagine it would be a great neutral shade for anyone who isn't as scared of dark eyeshadow as I am!

Cruisin Chic - This one is by far my favourite of the whole collection. Cruisin Chic is a beautiful medium brown metallic shade which works really well with my fair skin. If you've got the UD Naked Palette then this shade is a dead ringer for Side Car.

Back To Basics - This shade reminds me of On & On Bronze from the Maybelline Colour Tattoo Collection, its a beautiful light bronze shade which I think would suit all skin tones.

Gotta Glow - If you're a fan of golden metallic shadows then this one will be perfect for you. It's a beautiful golden colour, reminiscent of Half Baked from Urban Decay.

What do you think of the e.l.f Smudge Pots? I definitely think these will be a repurchase product once I've finished them!

Lots of Love,

  13. I found my gold doesn't come out as smooth or as pigmented as the others. The navy also does the same.
