Make Up Forever Matt Velvet + Foundation | Review

Tuesday, 10 February 2015

Hello Beauties! Another product which my parents kindly picked up for me while they were in Canada  way back in December was the Make Up Forever Mat Velvet + Foundation. I've been wanting to try this foundation forever as I'd heard so many reviews on how brilliant it was for oily skinned girls like myself.

As I had to try and colour match myself online, I went for number 15 which is one of the lightest shades in the range. I opted for number 15 as thats the shade I have in the MUFE HD Foundation and it's a perfect match for me, however I've found that the Mat Velvet + runs a lot lighter than the HD foundation, so if you're colour matching online - be warned. In all honesty, I should have really picked up either number 20 or 25 as this is just way too light for me and leaves me looking very pale and ghostly, but lesson learned - next time I'll go for a darker shade!

Another thing which shocked me when I opened this up was the size of the bottle. This thing is tiny, however it does contain 30ml worth of product which isn't too small for a foundation - even if it does make the price that little bit more eye watering! Anyway, size aside I really like the packaging of this product. It's light weight, small and portable so its great for chucking in your handbag for touchups or if your travelling. It's also plastic which, although isn't as luxurious, is a lot better for me than a glass bottle as I'm just so clumsy. The bottle is a squeezy bottle with a thin plastic nozzle, which makes getting the exact amount of foundation you want really easy. I always look for this in foundations now, as I don't really see why companies think it's okay to charge £30+ for a foundation that doesn't come with a pump of some sort, yet drugstore brands can offer a pump for a fraction of the price. Rant over.

But did it live up to expectations? The short story is yes, it did. I've tried my fair share of matte foundations over the years in an effort to combat my oily skin, but this offering from MUFE is by far the most mattifying. I often find that some matte foundations can make my skin appear chalky, but the Mat Velvet + has the ability to mattify my skin without making it look flat or chalky. The matte effect also lasts for hours, something which I find difficult to find in foundations. If you have oily skin then I'd definitely recommend trying this one out. If you're a dry skinned gal, then I'd recommend staying away from this foundation as it does have the tendency to cling to any dry patches that I may have.

Overall, I have been pleasantly surprised with this foundation, which is always nice after you've just paid an arm and a leg for a high end product! I do have to mix this in with other foundations though, due to my little shade mishap, which does affect the longevity of it - so next time I'm stateside I will definitely be picking this up in a shade or two darker!

Lots of Love,

Becky x x

  1. i just recently went to my sephora, and they coloured match me it was as close as they could to my skin tone. I was looking into the HD foundation from make up 4ever but with the help of a Sephora person, it was hard to find a shade even in HD. Found their tones to yellow for me but with finding and going through the pretty light shades in HD we found one that was going to possibly work. I'm hoping with trying the sample and figuring out how it wears will be my test if I buy it! Good luck with this shade, maybe you can mix it with a BB cream that you have or another foundation.

  7. I'll definitely check it out when it comes to Debenhams :) I like the sound of a velvet finish - de-shining but not too matte/powdery! xx

  10. It sounds like a really good product - but it is a shame that the colour wasn't a match. It really is hard to pick out foundations online and sometimes even in person!

  11. Picking out a foundation color is always so hard! Its better to go lighter than darker though since you can just use a little bronzer, thats what I have done in the past! This looks really really nice. I have the same type skin as you so I may have to give this a try!
