BD Trade Secrets Vital Skin Longwear Foundation | Review

Wednesday, 8 April 2015

Hello Beauties! I hope you're all well? Today I have another product review for you all from the BD Trade Secrets range, exclusive to Tesco. Recently, I've been trying to incorporate some more 'budget friendly' product reviews after receiving a lot of requests, and I think this foundation is excellent quality for the price and definitely something worth checking out at the drugstore.

Firstly I'll start off with the shade range, as this is something I always struggle with in more budget friendly foundation options. The Vital Skin Longwear foundation comes in 6 shades, which doesn't seem like much, however I found it really easy to find my match. I have shade 2 which is the second lightest shade and it's the perfect match. Usually I have to have the lightest shade and still find it's too dark/orange on me so it's nice to know that if you're paler than me (I wear NW13 in MAC) you might be able to find your shade. However, after looking at the range, if you have darker or olive skin, the shade range is a little limited which is a shame.

This foundation has been compared to MAC's Studio Fix foundation, and I can definitely see some similarities, and I'd even go as far as to say that this foundation is slightly better than Studio Fix (and half the price). Firstly, the foundation is a lot thinner than Studio Fix, it's by no means a thin foundation but it's not as thick and tacky.  I find that this foundation blends in well and gives a medium coverage which can definitely be built up without the product caking on your skin, which is always good to know incase you're having a bad skin day and need the extra coverage.

The foundation sets pretty quickly on your skin, leaving a semi-matte finish. It's by no means a matte foundation, but it does take the shine away from your face without drying out your skin, which is a problem I often have with matte foundations. I find that this foundation still lets the natural texture and glow of your skin shine through, but it does take away the oily/greasy look that I always seem to have.

The only problem I had with this foundation was with its 'long lasting' claims. I found that when I applied the foundation in the morning (around 8am), it had started to melt off my face throughout the afternoon (around 2/3pm) which I wouldn't say was that long lasting. I do touch my face quite a lot and I do have the problem of oily skin, so maybe on normal or drier skin types it is long lasting, but if you've got oily skin like me and forget to keep on top of your powder then this will start to slide off your face.

Overall I do really like this product for an 'everyday' foundation as the finish and coverage are lovely, not to mention the shade range is amazing for a drugstore foundation. I usually have to take the lightest shade which is often still too dark, but with this product I have shade 2 so anyone who is paler than me (around NW13 in MAC) should be able to find a shade that matches their skin tone in shade 1. However I wouldn't rely on this foundation on days when I know I won't have much opportunity to touch up and when I really need my makeup to last.

Lots of Love,

Becky x x

    1. That really is the only downside which is a shame, but I do like it for days when I'm not doing much or when I only really need to wear my makeup for a couple of hours! xx
