Clear Skin in 7 Days?! Magnitone Lucid Review

Wednesday, 29 April 2015

A few years ago the beauty world went nuts for facial cleansing brushes, with the launch of the Clarisonic, but due to the hefty £200 price tag they were never really something I considered. I have very sensitive, acne prone skin, so I was always worried that a tool like this would just make the problem worse or cause a reaction. However, when I heard about the Magnitone Lucid and it's purse friendly price tag, I thought it would be worth giving it a go, and let me tell you, I am so glad that I did. The Magnitone Lucid comes with a '7 day promise' - the brand promise that your skin will be softer, brighter and clearer after only 7 days of use - sounds too good to be true, right? Wrong. I've been so impressed with this product and definitely saw a huge difference in my skin after just 7 days, but more on that later.

Before I get in to what the product actually does and the results it gives, lets talk about the packaging. I went for the Pixie Lott version, which is limited edition, however the Magnitone Lucid also comes in a range of pretty colours for those of you who don't fancy bright pink. The brush also comes complete with a little pink Pixie Lott headband too, which I think was a really nice touch. This brush also comes in a Pixie Lott branded box, complete with everything you need for the brush - instruction manuals, chargers and a little cap to place over the brush head when you're not using it.

The design of the Magnitone Lucid is something I really love about the product. Magnitone have made what was once quite a complex device into something thats simple and user friendly. As this is a travel version of the original Magnitone Pulsar, it's super light weight and compact, so it's really easy to slip into an overnight bag or suitcase if you're jetting off anywhere nice (lucky you!), and it also fits into the palm of your hand really nicely. The brush also comes with a wireless magnetic charger, making the brush itself completely waterproof so you can use this in the bath or shower - genius! You just charge up the little magnetic clip and then pop it on to the bottom of the brush, it really couldn't be easier, and once charged the brush lasts over two weeks, again making it perfect for taking away with you.

One thing which always put me off cleansing brushes was the amount of different buttons and settings they had, as I'd never know which setting I should be using and what would work best for my skin. I also believe that beauty should be simple, and Magnitone have really hit the nail on the head with this one. The brush has just one button, which you use to turn the brush on and change the settings. You just press it once to turn it on to deep clean mode and then press the same button again to put the brush into sensitive mode. Personally, I prefer to use the sensitive mode as I do have quite sensitive skin, and I find that it is deep cleaning enough for me. It's also worth pointing out that Magnitone recommend only using the sensitive mode for the first couple of days, just while your skin gets used to the new sensations and you don't over exfoliate.

So, how does the Magnitone actually work to better cleanse your skin? The idea behind the Magnitone Lucid is that it works to cleanse the skin more effectively than hands alone, as it can really get deep into your pores using its 10,000 pulsed oscillations (vibrations to the less technical among us) per minute to remove any excess gunk (for want of a better word) which may be lingering in your pores and causing spots. The brush can be used with your regular cleanser too, which I think is a definite benefit as the last thing I want to do is be swapping the cleanser it's taken me years to find!

Along with deep cleaning your pores, the brush also works to gently exfoliate the skin. I'm a bit obsessive when it comes to exfoliating my skin, and using harsh apricot scrubs had left my skin a little over-exfoliated, so I really love how gentle this brush is, yet it achieves the same, if not better, results. The brush also has a built in timer to ensure that you don't over exfoliate your skin, which I think is super handy. The timer is set to one minute, so when you turn it on it will start vibrating for 20 seconds, then stop for a second so you can move on to another area of your face. Like I said, I do think this is a great idea but some days I do find it hard to stick to. You know your skin better than anyone else, and some days you just need a little extra or a little less in some areas.

After using my Magnitone Lucid for 7 days:

Now, on to the exciting bit - the results! As you can see from the picture above, my skin is looking pretty darn clear, especially for someone who has suffered with acne for the past 12 years! This photo was taken after just 7 days of using the Magnitone Lucid, and I can happily say that my skin has continued to clear up (apart from a couple of days after I stupidly fell asleep with my makeup on - it happens to the best of us!) and I really couldn't be happier. Since using this I've stopped using scrubs and exfoliators all together, as using the brush has really improved the feel and texture of my skin. Before, I had tonnes of little bumps under my skin and spots left right and centre, which have all vanished thanks to this little skincare miracle.

I've been using the brush in the shower most nights, as I find it's just easier to use as it can sometime spray water a little bit, with my Simple Vital Vitamin Foaming Cleanser and find that it works a treat. I first massage the cleanser into my skin with my hands, then gently run the brush over my skin in circular motions to work the cleanser into my skin and gently exfoliate. At first I was worried about how this would react with my sensetive skin, but I can happily say that I had no problems in that department, and as you can probably tell I'm in love with this little brush. In fact, the results were so good that even my Mum went out and ordered one after seeing the dramatic change in my skin.

Lots of Love,

  6. I've really wanted to try one of these for a while now but have been scared that it would be too harsh for my sensitive skin and couldn't really afford to splash out that much money on something I may never be able to use. I actually now have one on the way to review and I'm really looking forward to trying it x

    1. I hope it works well for you! I know what you mean about being worried about using it on your sensitive skin, I was the same. I'd say just be careful and only use it on the sensitive mode for a couple of weeks until your skin gets used to it - i find the sensitive mode is all I really need! xx
