The Best Drugstore Foundation...Ever? L'Oreal Infallible Matte Foundation Review

Monday, 13 April 2015

Hello Beauties! I hope you're well? Today I wanted to share with you an amazing foundation I've been trying recently. I picked up the L'Oreal Infallible 24hr Matte Foundation from Boots after watching countless first impressions on YouTube, all raving about how amazing the foundation was, and I have to say, I haven't been disappointed.

Firstly, lets get the packaging out of the way. The foundation comes in a plastic tube, as oppose to the regular glass bottles. I won't lie, it's not the prettiest looking foundation in my collection but it gets the job done and I found it useful towards the end of last month when I was travelling a bit as it's so light and compact. Instead of a pump the foundation has a thin squeezy applicator (sorry about my shocking description there, I have no idea what it's called!). I actually really like this applicator as you can really control how much you want to use and make sure that none of the product is wasted.

Anyway, on to the actual product. L'Oreal claim that this foundation is a medium weight foundation that gives you a full coverage, long lasting matte effect. I can't really vouch for the 24hr claims as honestly, who wears their foundation that long?! Certainly not me. However, the others I do have an opinion on. Like the packaging says, this foundation is definitely a medium weight foundation. It's not a thin and runny foundation like some of the liquid to powder ones out at the moment, but it's certainly not as heavy as the likes of MAC Studio Sculpt, I'd say it sits somewhere right in the middle and actually feels really lightweight once blended into the skin. As for it's full coverage claims, it definitely delivers on these. This foundation covers everything I want it to including breakouts, redness and dark circles and I felt less of a need for concealer when wearing this foundation.

I'd say that the foundation was more of a semi-matte than a full matte foundation though. It does take all shine away, but unlike most matte foundations, it doesn't dry out my skin or leave it looking chalky and powdery. I think the finish and the lasting powder is really what impressed me about this foundation. I have seriously oily skin and this foundation did not budge for hours, where others melt off within about 3 hours.

The only problem I have with this foundation is the shade I got. I picked up Vanilla which is the second lightest shade, as when I swatched it in the store, it was the perfect match for my skin. Even when I first applied it to my skin it looked perfect, however once the foundation has set, which takes about 30 seconds, it does darken slightly which made Vanilla slightly too dark for me. This isn't the biggest issue for me, as I do usually get the lightest shade in any foundation, so I can just head back to Boots and pick up the lighter shade. However, at the moment I'm making the most of this one by mixing it in with my MAC Matchmaster Foundation. Actually, I'd say if you were a fan of the Matchmaster foundation, then you may want to try this one first as it's a pretty good dupe for half the price.

Overall, I love this foundation. I'm a bit of a makeup snob, especially when it comes to foundations so for a drugstore foundation to seriously wow me, it has to be pretty amazing. When it comes to long lasting oil controlling foundations from the drugstore, I'd choose this one over the infamous Revlon Colourstay any day. I just wish that L'Oreal would bring over the matching powder and setting spray that they have in the US. If you'd like to try this for yourself (and I seriously recommend that you do), it's available from Boots for around £7.99 - bargain!

Lots of Love,

Becky x x

    1. You definitely should! Although if you're not a regular foundation wearer you may find this a little too full coverage, although it definitely doesn't feel like it is on the skin xx

  9. I am going through my second tube of this! I absolutely love it! it's the best foundation I've tried so far. I have to agree with you about the shades, when I've got mine I was over the moon how well it suits my skin tone, but after applying it, it seem to get a little bit darker. But I am not bothered too much, it's still my #1 foundation!

    Great post xx

  15. I have this but haven't tried it yet because I've been trying the Maybelline Nude Flawless one out first. I also got Vanilla but only because as far as I could see that was the lightest shade available. I then discovered that was the lightest shade on the 'I'm a new product' part of the display but on the main display there was a lighter one. So I think this might be too dark for me, but I'll give it a try and see x

  19. I actually picked up this foundation last week and the first time I tried it wasn't good, it just sat in my pores. I was so disappointed because of the amazing reviews it's been receiving. I'm not gonna give up, I think the next time I will try a primer, it will not beat me!
