The Cohorted Beauty Box | March 2015

Wednesday, 15 April 2015

Hello Beauties! I hope you're all well and enjoying this amazing weather we've been having, hopefully it will continue on into Summer! If you've been reading my blog for a while, then you'll know that I've been subscribed to Birchbox (another monthly subscription service) for about a year now, and really that's as far as my experience with beauty boxes goes. I'm always a little doubtful of whether they're really worth the money, as honestly I'd usually prefer to just go out and buy one product that I actually want rather than receiving loads of sample sizes that either don't work for my skin or are just things I'd never normally buy. However, Cohorted have recently released their own version of the 'beauty box' which looked quite exciting, so when they contacted me to ask whether I;d be up for trialling the service, of course I said yes.

Unlike other beauty boxes, the Cohorted beauty box isn't a subscription service, so if you're a bit strapped for cash one month, you don't have to worry about paying for a subscription and can just go without for a month, which I think is a great idea, as some months I don't really want a beauty box as I do other months. However, these are pretty limited in numbers and tend to sell out pretty quickly, so you really have to be on the ball with this if you do want to receive a box. The box also only contains 4 products, which doesn't sound like a lot compared to other beauty box services, however you're more likely to get a full size product with Cohorted, so I'm happy to receive a bit less in terms of numbers.

The first product I received was the Bare Minerals Pure Transformation Night Treatment, which is basically a mineral foundation which you wear a night and promises to give you a rejuvenated, bright look when you wake up. It's a bit of an odd product and personally, I just couldn't get on with this. The thought of wearing foundation at night is a bit alien to me and I prefer to give my skin the chance to breathe, not to mention the orange stains I now have on my pillow case! I received the shade 'light' which I believe was the shade that everyone received, so there hasn't really been much consideration into skin tone/colour in this months box, but I guess that's the risk you take when ordering these beauty boxes. This was a full size product which is currently on sale for £45.00, so although I didn't end up loving the product, I'm happy that this box gave me the chance to try it out as it is quite an expensive product.

The second product I received, which is also a full size product, was the Sleek Highlighter Palette in Precious Metals. This palette comes with three cream highlight shades and a bronze highlight shade which is a powder, along with one of those useless little brushes. I was really excited to receive this product, it's something I know I'll get a lot of wear out of, but maybe wouldn't have picked up on a mooch around Superdrug, which is what I like about these beauty boxes - they introduce you to things you may not have previously considered. This retails for around £8, so not a hugely expensive product, but it definitely adds up when you think about the value of the box all together.

The product which I was most excited to receive was the Too Faced Exotic Colour Eyeshadow in Copper Peony, which is a beautiful coppery rose gold colour, and one which I know I'll get a lot of use out of. Too Faced are one of my all time favourite brands, they can really do no wrong in my eyes, so when I saw this little eyeshadow poking out of the box an excited squeal may have escaped. The eyeshadow is gorgeous and the quality is amazing (I much prefer this to my MAC shadows). The colour is intensely shimmery, buttery soft and highly pigmented which is everything I look for in an eyeshadow, why did I not try these sooner?! Again, this was a full size product, which would have set me back £13 had I bought it separately.

The only sample size product I received in this month's box was the Urban Decay Perversion Mascara. I don't really mind that this was a sample, because I'll still be able to get a couple of week's worth of wear out of this unlike some samples I've received in other beauty boxes. I haven't got round to trying this yet as I've got mascara samples coming out of my ears at the moment, but I can't wait to give it a go once I've used up some of my others.

Overall, I think this was a brilliant beauty box. Unlike other beauty boxes, it contained mostly full size products, from well known high end brands, and it also contained more makeup than skincare which I prefer, as usually the skincare I receive is targeted at dry/mature skin which isn't much use to me! The box does cost £19.99 so it is a little bit more expensive, but completely worth it in my eyes. One thing to watch out for though, you do have to pre-order these boxes because, as I said, they sell out pretty quickly. In fact, the pre-order for May, June and July's boxes are going live tonight at 6pm so get in there quick!

Lots of Love,

Becky x x

    1. I tried the UD mascara today and unfortunately it just didn't work for me :( But I guess it's good that I got to try out a sample before deciding to purchase the full size and hating it! xx

  4. I really love the concept of a box that you don't need a full on subscription for. And it looks like you got a really interesting range of products. Don't know about the BM one though. What a strange idea!
