My Summer Beauty Staples

Thursday, 2 July 2015

Here in the UK we seem to have been struck with a little heatwave, and after a cold and rainy winter there's no way I'm complaining! However, all of this hot weather has inspired me to change up my makeup a little and make it more summer appropriate and heat proof, so I thought I would share some of the products I've been using to do that with you all. All of these products would be perfect if you're planning on jetting off anywhere exotic this summer or if you're just enjoying the English summer like myself.

MAC Studio Fix Powder | Link

MAC Studio Fix powder has been a favourite of mine since I first really got in to makeup in my late teens, it something I always go back to and with good reason. This powder is kind of like a cross between a setting powder and a powder foundation, so as well as locking all of your makeup in place and mattifying the skin it also offers you some coverage which is perfect for people like me, as I have some acne scarring and pigmentation issues that I've been left with. Now, this isn't cheap, however I really do think it's worth the money and I've never found a powder that comes close in the drugstore. The shade pictured is actually a couple of shades dark as I accidentally ordered the wrong shade so I've been using it for contouring (which its surprisingly good at) however as soon as payday rolls around I'll definitely be picking up one in my correct shade.

Essence Blotting Papers | Link

As much as I love my powders, I always find blotting papers to be the best thing to use to touch up your makeup, as they help to avoid the dreaded cakey look. I picked these up on a whim when I was in Westfield one day as they were really cheap, and I'm pleasantly surprised at how much I love them. When my face is looking a little shiny I just dab a couple of these across my face to absorb the oil and they take my face back to looking matte again without removing any of my foundation, and then if I feel like I need it I can always dab a little powder across my t-zone. If you've got oily skin and struggle with 'cake face' as you have to top up your powder a lot, then I'd definitely recommend these.

Nars Laguna Bronzer | Link

Througout the winter I was completely obsessed with the Too Faced Milk Chocolate Soliel Bronzer, however now that the weather has gotten a little warmer I found that I needed something a little bit darker so that the definition between my foundation and bronzer was a little more significant. Nars Laguna Bronzer has been perfect for this as it's a few shades darker without being so dark that it makes my face look muddy or orange...just enough to lightly bronze up my skin and leave me with a healthy glow. I have this larger compact of this bronzer which comes with a mini Ita brush, making this so easy to use for light contouring, or you can use a larger fluffy brush and lightly dust it across areas which would naturally catch the sun for a really healthy, summery look.

Estee Lauder Pure Colour Blush in Peach Passion | Link

Throughout the summer I always find that I crave that gorgeous glowy look, however due to my oily skin this isn't something I can achieve through my foundation so I always have to look elsewhere to get that summer glow...and blusher is the perfect solution for me. The Estee Lauder Pure Colour Blush in Peach Passion is perfect for this, as it's a gorgeous peach colour (as the name would suggest) which just screams summer to me. The blusher also has a glowy finish so I find that it illuminates my face and gives the impression that I've actually got a decent nights sleep for once in my life...plus theres no need for a highlighter with this so if you're off on your travels and want to cut down on the products you're taking, this would be perfect!

Decleor Facial SPF | Link

I'm sure I don't need to lecture you too much on the importance of a good sunscreen but honestly, the tan is just not worth it...and if skin cancer isn't enough to put you off baking your skin under the suns harmful rays, then maybe the wrinkles you'll get when you're older will do. As someone with a history of acne and who regularly suffers breakouts, Its really important that I use an SPF which doesn't block my pores and cause more problems that it prevents, and I've found the Decleor sunscreen to be the best for this. It sinks in really quickly without leaving any weird white cast on your face or making your face seem oily/shiny like so many others can do. This is only SPF 15 which isn't really strong enough for me as I burn like nobodies business, so now that the weather is hotter I'll definitely be picking this up in a higher SPF.

What are your favourite summer products?

Lots of Love,

Becky x x

  1. Love Deleor's sun range- it smells so good! Plus all the benefits it has, a good sunscreen for the face really makes the difference doesn't it!

I also am glad to see you get on with Studio fix, I had issues with it looking too dry on my skin. I really need to give it a go with a makeup spray or better skin to see if it will work better!

  7. This is such a helpful post, I really need to get some blotting sheets! I've heard such good things about that Mac powder I'd love to try it :) A setting spray is my hot weather essential, I love keeping it in my bag and having a little spray throughout the day to refresh and cool me down a bit.
