Bournemouth's #HiddenGems

Monday, 24 August 2015

Hello Beauties! I hope you're all well and had a lovely weekend! Today I have a bit of a different post for you all, but as my last post on Borough Market went down so well, I thought it would be a nice idea to introduce some more 'lifestyle' posts into the mix. I moved to Bournemouth for University around 4 years ago now, but since then I've never really spoken about the town on my blog. I guess with it being such a small town I didn't want to reveal too much about my whereabouts (you never know who may be reading), but now I've moved out I think it's time I shared some of my favourite things to do in Bournemouth, and some ideas for you if you're planning on visiting.

Where to Eat & Drink

When you think of Bournemouth, I'm pretty sure you all think of Fish & Chips by the seaside, and while we do make a mean battered cod, there's also a lot more on offer in terms of eating out.

West Beach - If you're into your seafood then you definitely want to check out West Beach. It's an award winning seafood restaurant right on the beach with amazing views (especially in the summer). It's a little more upscale so it would be great for a special meal out or an occasion, or even just a little treat.

Aruba - If you're looking for somewhere to have a nice drink, then I'd definitely recommend Aruba as their cocktails are to die for. Aruba also serve food (pretty good food too) so if you're looking for dinner and drinks then I'd definitely recommend checking it out. Similarly to West Beach, Aruba is located right on the beach with a balcony view of the Pier.

Sprinkles - If sweet treats are what you're into then you definitely don't want to leave without a visit to Sprinkles Gelato. Whether it's waffles, crepes or ice cream sundaes, Sprinkles has it covered with about 30 different toppings on offer and some seriously good flavour combinations. Sprinkles is the sort of place you go to consume your whole weekly calorie allowance in once sitting, so go hungry.

What to See & Do

The Beach - A trip to Bournemouth wouldn't be complete without a trip to the beach. Bournemouth Beach is exactly how you'd imagine a traditional English beach to be. It's packed with fair ground rides, ice cream stalls, and of course plenty of fish & chip restaurants. It gets pretty busy at the weekends so you're best going during the week, but nevertheless, it's a definite Bournemouth must-see.

Bournemouth Gardens - If you walk to the beach from the centre of town, then you're most likely going to have a wander through Bournemouth Gardens. It's full of pretty little walkways and flower displays, and some seriously hungry (and confident) squirrels. There's also a big balloon which you can go in if you're looking for arial views of the whole town and coast. I've never actually been in the balloon but I've heard it's worth a trip.

Oceanarium - A trip to the seaside wouldn't be complete without looking at some cute sea-critters. Bournemouth Oceanarium is teaming with sea creatures, with some seriously cute penguins and turtles, it's definitely worth checking out.

If you're planning on visiting Bournemouth, I hope these ideas have been helpful as the town really does have so much to offer. If you're looking for somewhere to stay while in Bournemouth, the Travelodge has some great deals, and also some more tips and ideas for what to do while you're there here.

Lots of Love,

Becky xo
