6 Things I Use Everyday

Thursday, 28 January 2016

Hello Beauties! When you test out as many products as I do, it's easy to forget those unsung heroes...the products you find yourself going back to time after time, and on an everyday basis, that never seem to let you down. Today I thought I'd share with you 6 of those products and why I think they deserve a spot in the top 6.

When it comes to foundation, it really doesn't get any better than the Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation. After 5 years in the making, this foundation creates the perfect base - flawless, pore free and long lasting, all whilst looking completely natural. The foundation provides a medium to full coverage without feeling heavy or looking cakey and manages to achieve that 'matte but not flat' look which I adore so much. It'll cost you a pretty penny, but in my opinion, if you're going to splurge, splurge on your base products.

Nars has quickly become one of my favourite brands for blush, and that's one hell of a title when you look at how much blush I actually own (more than I care to admit!). Angelika is the perfect cool toned pink, perfect for creating that rosy, fresh-faced look and the hint of sparkle instantly lifts my cheeks and gives me an illuminated, well rested finish. If pink blush is your cup of tea, then you need to add this to your makeup bag.

Having always been an advocate of high street mascaras, I was pretty surprised to find that a high end mascara had wiggled it's way into my top 6, however, since receiving a mini sample of this, I haven't looked back. The Clinique High Impact mascara manages to lift my lashes and give them that fluttery look, without clumping at all, and the long and thin brush makes getting to those hard to reach corner lashes a doodle.

It wouldn't be a top 6 without including my all time favourite MAC lipstick, Peach Blossom. Peach Blossom is the perfect pinky-peachy nude with a cremesheen finish to really hydrate the lips and give them that plump look we all desire. It goes perfectly with my fair skin, and looks perfectly pretty when I've got a slight tan too. In my opinion, this is an all-rounder - perfect for everyday wear and also paired with a strong smokey eye.

Having oily, acne-prone and dehydrated skin has made finding my perfect moisturiser a little difficult to say the least. But since picking up the Clinique Moisture Surge (3 bottles ago!), I haven't looked back. The gel formula feels extremely cooling and refreshing on my oily, dehydrated skin and is light enough to not aggregate my acne or clog my pores. The formula is extremely moisturising and I've really noticed a difference in the texture of my skin, making this moisturiser something I can't see myself living without.

If I only had time to apply one makeup product in the morning, it would be my Anastasia Beverley Hills Brow Wiz. Filling in my brows makes me feel put together and really completes any look, but it can be tricky and with the wrong products, can often look a little fake. Since discovering the ABH Brow Wiz a couple of years ago now, I haven't looked back. The thin pencil is easy to control, making filling in your brows in a natural way easy as pie. Also, the extensive colour range is perfect for achieving the perfect arch.

What products do you use everyday?

Statement Necklaces from The Happiness Boutique

Tuesday, 26 January 2016

Hello Beauties! It's not often I blog about the fashion pieces and accessories I've been coveting, but this necklace was just too pretty not to share. I'm not normally a jewellery person, and only own a few key pieces which I regularly wear, but recently I've been really into pairing a statement necklace with a sheer, chiffon shirt, and this blue number from The Happiness Boutique is perfect for that.

The Happiness Boutique has a whole host of statement necklaces on offer, from larger more 'bib' like pieces (which are just too much for me) and more conservative pieces which would still be considered a statement. I chose this blue one as I liked how the different shades of blue complimented each other, and also how it sat around just around my collar bone, so it looks perfect with a high neck jumper and instantly completes an outfit. The necklace does feel fairly heavy at first, as is to be expected with something so chunky, but after a little while I didn't really notice it, so it wasn't too much of a problem.

The Happiness Boutique also offers free shipping, which is always an incentive for me as I hate when you have to return something but lose up to £5 on shipping, and you can also receive 10% off your order with the code 'lipgloss-and-lashes' - so if you feel like treating yourself, it'll be that little bit easier to justify it!

Where is your favourite place to pick up statement pieces?

Benefit Ultra Plus Lip Gloss - Hervana & Dandelion

Sunday, 24 January 2016

In my experience, you're either a Benefit girl or not, and I most definitely am. I love their cute, kitsch packaging and the retro vibe is just to die for, so when I saw these two beauties in amongst the Benefit Cosmetics sale this Boxing Day I just couldn't leave them behind (and the little samples were definitely an incentive!).

The Benefit boxed blushes are some of my favourites, and I've raved about them on here time after time, so I'm sure it comes as no surprise that I also love their gloss forms. As I'd never tried any of these glosses before, I decided to only choose two shades so went for the ones which were closest to my usual colours - Hervana and Dandelion - which are also my two most worn Benefit blushers.

Hervana, along with Lollitint, is one of my favourite shades in the Benefit cheek line up. I love the orchid pink tones, however I've always been a little hesitant to opt for bold colours on my lips as they just don't suit me like my light pinks and nudes do, so I thought that opting for the shade in a gloss form would be a great way for me to achieve the colour, but in a wearable way. The Hervana gloss is a beautiful berry pink shade which surprisingly compliments my fair skin more than I initially expected it to. The gloss has a slight shimmer but nothing too noticeable, just enough to make your lips look a little plump. This shade was exactly what I was looking for - a sheer mid-pink shade with slight purple undertones, that looks lovely on an everyday basis. This looks great paired with MAC Lovelorn lipstick (one of my all time faves), but it also works on it's own as the sheer colour is just enough to make something of your lips.

Dandelion, much like the blush, is a gorgeous light pink gloss with a little sheen. It's not outright shimmery, but it has just enough to make your lips appear full and cushiony - even on my thin lips. The gloss goes gorgeously with light lipsticks like Creme Cup and Peach Blossom by MAC, and makes the perfect gloss for everyday wear and work if you don't want anything over the top.

Overall, I love these glosses and I've definitely been getting a lot of wear out of them. As well as the shades being stunning, the formula is perfect too. I'm not a fan of sticky or heavy lip glosses and find that I just don't reach for them, but these glosses from Benefit are super light-weight on the lips and the formula has more of a 'slippy' texture than a sticky one, so they're not uncomfortable to wear. The wear time isn't bad either for a gloss, so overall I'm extremely happy with these and will definitely be adding to my collection.

Nars Blush in 'New Attitude'

Wednesday, 20 January 2016

Hello Beauties! You'll have to excuse the lack of blog posts this week, I'm still getting used to my new camera and it's proving a little more difficult than expected...I still can't quite manage the 'bright and airy' look which I love so much. Anyway, I recently managed to purchase my first Nars blush in a blog sale (for an absolute bargain!) so thought I'd pop up a little review in case any of you were thinking of splurging a little!

Nars "New Attitude" blush was originally released as part of the Final Cut collection, which I was so upset to miss out on the first time round as the colours seemed perfect for me. New Attitude is described as a 'cherry blossom' pink and is a true blue-toned pink, similar to Pink Swoon by MAC. However, unlike Pink Swoon, New Attitude is slightly more sheer, making it much more wearable.

The blush applies as a light wash of pink, which is just enough to make you look a little more awake in the mornings. In fact, I even received a few complements on how fresh faced I looked when wearing this. The blush has a satin-matte finish making it great for oily skinned girls like myself, but also making it great to pair with your favourite highlight, as I sometimes find shimmery blushes a little hard to pull off. It's also worth mentioning the lasting power of this blush as it's just phenomenal. Considering the blush is so sheer, I expected it to wear off pretty quickly but to it's credit, the colour was still in my cheeks at the end of the day after putting my makeup on at 6am in the morning!

Overall, I love this blush and it's become my new go-to blush for an everyday look. In fact, I love it so much that I'll definitely be adding a few new Nars products to my collection when pay day rolls around!

What are your favourite blushers?

Lots of Love,

MAC X Ellie Goulding Lipstick in 'Without Your Love' and Alternatives

Monday, 18 January 2016

Hello Beauties! It's not often that I treat myself to products from MAC limited edition collections, although the products and packaging are usually to die for. I like to think about my purchases before splurging and unfortunately the speed that the MAC collections sell out doesn't really allow me that thinking time that I desire. However, when I saw the Ellie Goulding collection, I knew I needed to buy at least one of the lipsticks as they were completely my colours. I managed to hunt one down at World Duty Free as all of my other local counters were sold out completely (yes, I dithered again and missed out). Lucky for me, World Duty Free had a couple of each shade left, however as the two shades were so similar I decided to pick up just the one (although I'm definitely regretting that choice!).

'Without Your Love' is described as a warm seashell pink with a creamy finish. It's a gorgeous muted, light to medium pink shade with slight peachy undertones. Light pinky peachy nudes are my all time favourite lipsticks, so it's no surprise that this one has become a new favourite, but I also love this for the finish. It has a semi-sheer colour payoff which I adore - ultra pigmented lipsticks never look great on me, and the sheerness of the shade makes this the perfect companion for everyday work-appropriate makeup. Both of the Ellie Goulding lipsticks come in the cremesheen formula which is one of my favourites as I find that they have a slightly plumping effect on my slim lips, although the wear-time isn't great. This isn't something that really bothers me as its easy enough to reapply your lipstick on the go.

Considering this is a limited edition collection, the packaging isn't too out there. The bullet is still black, but with a patent finish and Ellie's logo printed on in rose gold. Although it's not too out there, I like it better this way as it looks sophisticated and elegant, much like the colours within the packaging.

If you weren't lucky enough to be able to pick up 'Without Your Love' from the Ellie Goulding x MAC collection, then you're in luck. As soon as I swatched this lipstick in the store, I knew I'd seen something similar before and low and behold, my all time favourite MAC lipstick - peach blossom - is an excellent dupe. As you can see from the swatches below, the colours are almost identical, with peach blossom being just a smidgen darker and more pigmented:

Overall, I love this lipstick and it's become one of my new favourites. I'm already heading down to World Duty Free tomorrow to see if I can hunt out the other Ellie Goulding lipstick to add to my collection!

Did you manage to pick anything up from this collection?

Lots of Love,

Becky

Two New Benefit Cosmetics Launches

Saturday, 16 January 2016

Hello Beauties! I hope you're all well and having a lovely weekend. My new camera finally arrived this week, so I've spend the majority of today playing around with the settings, trying to get the perfect shot. I haven't quite figured it all out yet, so you'll have to excuse today's photos as I couldn't get them exactly how I wanted them - but I guess that's something that will come in time! If you follow me over on Instagram (@RDerbyshire93), you'll have seen that earlier this week I headed off to Borough for breakfast at the greasy-less spoon for the launch of Benefit Cosmetic's latest Porefessional products.

I had a lovely time at the event chatting to the Benefit girls and fellow blogger Vicki about all things Benefit and blogging. The breakfast was delicious and there was no detail unthought of, although I'd expect no less from the Benefit Digital Darlings!

The first of the new products is the Porefessional Instant Wipeout Masks, which come in this adorable little briefcase to fit with the 'spy gal' theme. The briefcase contains eight super clearing sheet masks, which can be used on your forehead, chin or across your nose and cheeks to eradicate large and congested pores - something I'm in dire need of! Unlike other sheet masks, this one comes with a little button you need to press to release the liquid into the sheet. Apart from being adorable, this also helps to keep the liquid inside the sheet mask as fresh as can be, making it better for your skin.

However, as much as I adore pretty packaging and innovative designs, it's the product inside that really needs to be tip-top. The Instant Wipeout Masks contain mushroom extract, known to help clear pores and has a menthol smell, so I knew the formula was strong as soon as I opened the mask.

But did it work? Unfortunately, I wasn't able to keep the mask on for a full ten minutes like the packaging recommends. I have extremely sensitive skin and this baby stung like nothing I've ever tried before - my eyes were streaming and I think I lasted about 2 mins before having to toss it away. That being said, even after only two minutes, my skin looked and felt visibly smoother, so if you've got a high pain threshold then I'd say give these a whirl but if you're a delicate flower like myself, then maybe stick to regular clay masks.

The second new release from Benefit is the Porefessional Matte Rescue primer and *spoiler alert* I love this one! At first I thought it was odd that Benefit were releasing yet another Porefessional primer as the first one is loved by so many, but after testing this one out all week, I can see why this is a must have. I often use the first Porefessional primer and whilst I do like it, I didn't love it, however the matte rescue is everything I look for in a primer and more.

The Porefessional Matte Rescue is a lightweight, water based gel primer designed to overpower shine and absorb surface oil, all whilst blurring imperfections and those pesky pores. The primer does exactly what it says it will, my pores looked pretty much invisible and my skin stayed shine free for about four hours longer than usual when paired with my Estée Lauder Double Wear Foundation, making this the perfect beauty companion for long work days where I don't have much chance to touch up.

The primer feels extremely lightweight and sinks into your skin rather than sitting on top of it like the first Porefessional primer, and is extremely moisturising despite being aimed at those wishing to eradicate shine. So much so that if you've got oily skin like myself, this primer also acts as a daytime moisturiser and you all know I love a good dual-purpose product!

If you can't already tell, I adore this primer and I can see myself repurchasing it over and over again. It effectively keeps my skin shine free, fills in my pores without clogging or drying out my skin, and it smells divine. The Matte Rescue primer, along with the Instant Wipeout Masks are launching later this month, but if you can't wait that long, you can currently purchase them straight from Benefit here.

Lots of Love,

Back Soon...

Thursday, 7 January 2016

It breaks my heart that I'm having to write this post, but unfortunately yesterday my little camera was involved in a bit of a freak Ribena related incident and is now completely broken. I'm still holding onto the hope that it will dry out and magically turn itself back on again as I don't really relish the idea of spending a couple of hundred pounds on another camera but at this stage, it's really not looking likely.

Anyone who knows me well or has ever been anywhere with me will know that I love that camera, it really was my favourite possession so it's fair to say it wasn't an easy loss (especially as the same model is no longer being produced - sob), especially as it's so crucial to this blog. Therefore, until I manage to replace it or it makes a miraculous recovery I won't be able to post anything new.

I think it's fair to say that this hasn't been the best start to 2016, but rest assured that I have a whole box of beauty goodies waiting to be photographed when I have a new camera, so there's plenty of content coming your way! In the meantime, you can still keep up to date with my beauty purchases and daily musings over on Instagram - @RDerbyshire93.

Accessorising your iPhone with Casetify

Wednesday, 6 January 2016

In my opinion, if you have to have something with you all the time, then there's no reason why you shouldn't make it look as good as you can, and one of the main reason I chose the iPhone when it came to purchasing a new phone nearly two years ago was due to the abundance of cute cases on the market. That being said, it's taken me almost to the end of my contract to discover my perfect phone case - something that reflects my personal style and won't make my phone bulky, and that's where Casetify came in.

Casetify has hundreds, and I mean literally hundreds, of phone cases available on their website in all different designs, models, types of case, etc so there's something for everybody...it may just take you a while to sift through them all and choose just one! After browsing on the website for a while I knew I wanted one of their clear cases to let my phone shine through, and I wanted one of the fashion illustration designs available. I've always been a huge fan of fashion illustrations, so why not have one printed onto your phone case?

When I saw this one from Kate Illustrates, I knew it had to be mine. It has everything I love from Marc Jacobs perfume to Chanel lipsticks and is just beyond adorable. Although I'll only have my current phone for a few more months before upgrading, I know I'll get lots of use from this case and I'm sure it will appear in various selfies!

The delivery did take a couple of weeks, but as I did order over the Christmas period and missed the last delivery date I wasn't too concerned about this, and I'll definitely be using Casetify to dress my new phone when it arrives!

Lots of Love,

Becky xo

New Year, New Skincare with Estée Lauder

Monday, 4 January 2016

Now that the festive period has been and gone, my skin is in desperate need of some serious tlc. Weeks of over-eating all of the chocolates combined with a lot of late nights have left my skin looking congested and seriously lacklustre, not a great combination when one of your new year's goals is to start wearing less makeup. So in an effort to combat this I've been switching up my skincare routine to include a few of Estée Lauder's hero products, which I received as part of a gift set this Christmas, along with a few other makeup goodies.

16 things for 2016

Sunday, 3 January 2016

Back when I first started blogging almost three years ago now, I published a post called '21 things before I turn 21' and it was a great success, so I thought I would share with you all 16 things which I'd like to accomplish before 2016 is over - both blog-wise and in my personal life.

1. Say 'yes' more - this is pretty much always a goal for me. I have a habit of saying no if I'm scared of doing something (even if it's something I really want to do) or when I get nervous, so this year I'd like to finally break that habit and say 'yes' to more opportunities.

2. Improve my photography - this one's fairly self-explanatory but I'd really like to up my photography game in 2016. I really enjoy taking photos but often feel that my photos aren't up to the right standard for the blogging world, and this is something I'd like to change this year.

3. Travel often - there's so much of the world I have left to see and this year I'd like to make the effort to see more of it, even if it is within the UK. I work in an airport so I should be in the right place to achieve this!

4. Start saving - Now that I'm finally out of education and into the real working world, it really is time I started saving. I don't want to be renting forever and a deposit won't pay for itself!

5. Get organised - I used to be such an organised person and this past year I seem to have fallen out of that habit. It's time to have a bit sort out of everything I own and get organised for the year ahead.

6. Invest in key pieces - Instead of wasting my money on more fashionable items which will no doubt go out of style in a month or two, I'd like to buy one or two key pieces instead that will stand the test of time, something like a classic trench coat or a good quality handbag.

7. Develop a posting schedule - Big changes in my lifestyle this past year meant my posting schedule went out the window. This year I'd like to get back into a routine, similarly to my 'getting organised' point.

8. Read more - I love reading, and get completely engrossed in the stories I choose to read, so it's a shame that this past year I haven't really read so much. I have a couple of long haul flights planned, so I'd like to spend that time getting into a good book or two.

9. Be a tourist in my own city - I live in one of the greatest cities on the planet, yet everyday I ignore the beauty that surrounds me. I'd like to spend this year really exploring my city and stop taking it for granted.

10. Look after my skin - it's time I developed a proper skincare routine and gave my skin exactly what it needed, it won't look 22 forever after all!

11. Keep in touch - I am the worst person for keeping in touch with friends, and now that we live all over the country its more important than ever. I'd like to make more of an effort this year to keep in touch with all of my friends, both near and far.

12. Continue my education - whilst my school and university days may be over, there's still so much our there to learn. I'd like to continue my education by attending some lectures in topics I'm interested in, visiting museums and historical landmarks, and listening to a podcast or two.

13. Take time off - I haven't had a proper break in about three years now. When I'm not at work I spend my time working tirelessly on my blog and sooner or later it's bound to catch up with me. This year I'd like to take more time off properly and spend some time offline.

14. Celebrate more often - there's so many little things in life worth celebrating and there's no reason why we shouldn't do it more often. There's no point saving things for big events and occasions that will never happen, instead I plan on breaking out the champagne more often to celebrate life's little accomplishments, and of course the big ones.

15. Wear less makeup - this may sound strange coming from a beauty blogger, but this year I'd like to strip back my makeup and instead focus on products which enhance what I've got instead of covering myself up. It's about time I learnt to love what I have instead of resenting every flaw.

16. Be myself - and finally, I'd like to have the confidence to be myself this year. I spent too much time trying to please others instead of doing what I want to do, and this has to stop this year.

What are your goals for 2016?

Lots of Love,

Becky xo

Another Year Over...

Friday, 1 January 2016

So, another year is finally over and my gosh, what a year it's been. I see my blog as partly a way to share my passion for beauty, and partly as a form of online journal for me to record my thoughts as I progress through life, and as this year's been such a big one, with a few curve balls thrown my way, I wanted to sit down and get all of my thoughts and feeling down on paper (well, the digital kind) and share with you all the emotional roller coaster that has been 2015.
