Another Year Over...

Friday, 1 January 2016

So, another year is finally over and my gosh, what a year it's been. I see my blog as partly a way to share my passion for beauty, and partly as a form of online journal for me to record my thoughts as I progress through life, and as this year's been such a big one, with a few curve balls thrown my way, I wanted to sit down and get all of my thoughts and feeling down on paper (well, the digital kind) and share with you all the emotional roller coaster that has been 2015.

It seems like just yesterday that we were singing old lang syne and sipping one too many glasses of champagne as we rang in the new year, full of hopes and wishes for what it may bring, 2015 has honestly zoomed by and honestly, I'm pretty sad to see it go. Although 2015 and me didn't get off to the best start, what with all of my uni work and a few personal problems, we've grown to love each other and we've been through a lot together - and honestly, I've always been terrible at goodbyes.

The first couple of months of 2015 went by in a blur of exam after exam, with a couple of hefty assignments thrown in for good measure. Then came time for me to write and hand in my dissertation. Looking back now, it seems silly that I was so utterly petrified of the daunting task that was my dissertation. I had no confidence in myself and thought I was sure to flunk it and come out of Uni with a 2.2 after four long years of hard work. Fortunately, I passed my dissertation with flying colours - not only did I pass, I got a first in it, which to me is incredible and something nobody thought I was capable of. I ended up achieving a 2.1 overall which I am incredibly proud of. I don't often say that I'm proud of myself (again, the self confidence issue), but achieving the grades I wanted after four years of pouring my heart and soul into my degree, I think I'm allowed to be just a little bit proud.

The end of Uni was a daunting time for me, I didn't have a job lined up like some of my friends and I had no idea what the future would hold for me. I went to interview after interview with no success, until finally something came up in June and suddenly my dread turned into excitement. I started my job at Heathrow as Passenger Communications & Social Media Advisor in July and moved to London the week before to start my new adventure. Ever since leaving London to move back to Uni, I knew I wanted to go back as soon as I could, so I was over the moon to be given the opportunity to move back. It's also been my desire to work in social media for years now so I was excited to see what my new adventure would bring. It's fair to say that my new job kept me busy and my focus shifted a little from my blog as I found my feet in my new role and settled in at home - making new friends is exhausting after all. At a similar time, all of my personal problems also solved themselves, and since then it's been one of the happiest times of my lives, if not the busiest.

In the later part of 2015, I finally graduated from University, it was a great day and lovely to see so many of my classmates do so well. It was a day full of love and celebration and one I'll never forget. It was pretty nerve wracking to walk across the stage in front of that many people, but it was a great end to an era, and I'm so proud of myself for finally making it. That weekend was also my Mum's 50th Birthday so we headed back to London to celebrate. To mark the occasion, we headed out for afternoon tea at Browns in Mayfair. This was my first afternoon tea experience and now I think I'm hooked! There's something special about sitting in a lovely warm room, snacking on cucumber sandwiches and sipping on tea.

Just before Christmas I headed to Munich with my good friend Amy, as we both felt like we needed a getaway after the year we've had - and what better way than to do something festive! It was only a short getaway but definitely one I needed. It was great to spend a few days being festive and ticking another city off my list, which has definitely inspired me to travel more in the upcoming years, starting with Las Vegas this April with my family.

After returning from Munich I had a short four days at work before returning home to Bournemouth for Christmas where I found out we had adopted a puppy! Reggie was our little Christmas surprise and I already love him to bits, he was 11 weeks old when I first met him and definitely a little cheeky chap. I was never much of a dog person as a child, but as I've grown older I've definitely developed a love for dogs, and now can't imagine the family without Reggie!

To round this off (well done if you read this far!), 2015 has been one of the worst and best years of my life to date, but I wouldn't change it for the world. It really is true what they say, what doesn't kill you only makes you stronger and 2015 has definitely taught me this. I'm sad to say goodbye to 2015 but I'm so exited to see what 2016 has in store for me both in my personal life as well as my blog and work life. So before I say goodbye, I want to wish you all the happiest of New Year's. You've all been there for me more than you'll ever know this year and without all of your support I know for a fact that I wouldn't be where I am today. I hope all of your wishes for 2016 come true and you're all inexplicably and uncontrollably happy.

Lots of Love,

Becky xo
